stock oil pressure?

What is the stock oil pressure on these motors at idle? I just installed a gauge and its reading just under 70 psi at idle, sounds really high to me to be honest. I'm just wondering if I did something wrong or thats how it should be. As far as I know I installed the gauge and sending unit correctly.
 




It's really that high stock, wow. My old 89 2.8 Camaro ran at like 30 at idle. Figured 60 would be real high rpms or something was wrong.

BIO is right that you need an average of 10 psi per evert 1k rpm. That is indeed on the low end a good engine should see definitely more psi than that. I know lack of oil psi in these engines can cause them to tick.

That oil psi figure you gave is that in the helms manual (I'll have to check mine). The lowest oil psi I've seen in my gtp was 28.5 psi and that was in 95 F heat and towing with the gtp while sitting at a light. I always see 65-75 psi on startup and crusing on the road I sit at around 65 psi.

To the op, the 70 psi at initial startup is fine, as the viscosity of the oil is thicker and will cause the higher psi. As the oil warms up the oil flows easier causing your oil psi to drop.

The ideal fuel pressure at idle is 45-50 psi. The oil pressure i normally see is 40 psi idle warmed up, As soon as i hit the gas the slightest bit, i see 60 psi, and when im gettin on it hard, 80-90psi. These engines run higher than other older engines, they use a different pump also. When in doubt, consult OEM.
 
You are correct. It will cause bearing erosion. Since i do not have high oil pressure though, it's not a problem.

That is what I was worried about at first. But since 60 psi is fine at idle then I'm not sweating it anymore. I'm just used to older cars with lower idle psi.
 


I honestly think every car is a bit different so there really is no way to gauge it just by OEM specs IMO...you have different wear and tear so cars are going to vary...hell my old motor used to idle at 20 or so and run up to nearly 70 WOT...when cruising around 25-35...so it differentiates quite often...
