stock cam and 105lbs springs

hey people,

i will be upgrading to 105lbs springs (+retainers etc.) and 1.95 Yella Terra roller rockers soon. I'm wondering whether the increased spring pressure will be ok for the standard camshaft to handle (i,e its hopefully won't cause it to snap lol)... and what about the stock lifters?

Cheers

You won't have any problems. You may want to upgrade to a double roller timing chain though.

You don't need a double roller for 105's and rockers... Before my cam swap, I ran 105's with 1.9 rockers on my original timing chain/dampener for 30k miles with no problems. My cam swap was done at 105k miles, in which a new stock chain and dampener were installed. The factory chain/dampener appeared to be in excellent shape upon removal.

OP: Your stock cam will be more than fine...

15whp more than rollers? So ~ +30whp more than stock rockers, cos rollers already give a 15whp gain...

Yea I've been thinking about that... here in Australia we have 1.98 modded rockers.... but I've been told they are not reliable and the bearings in them are ****.

Im going DR just to be safe... there have been people here who have had tensioners disintegrate with 105lbs springs... which blocked the oil feed and there go the bearings...

But what i dont understand is why everyone always says that you NEED to upgrade springs when using 1.9 roller rockers... but modded 1.9's can get away with stock springs. This doesnt really fit in with the theory that modded rockers make more lift at a given ratio compared to rollers... or am i missing something here?

If you are I've been missing it too. No harm meant but this modded/roller rocker fight has convinced me of nothing.

yea i know.... the guy from my performance shop said just put 130lbs... maybe he's expecting me to upgrade to a cam later on lol

But yea... not sure if 130lbs springs on stock cam and lifters is a good idea either...

I agree with you guys on the 1.9 modded vs roller and spring question. Although some roller rockers are heavier than stock, that could be a good reason.

The weak point of the system isn't the cam or the lifters, it's the chain. Since you are going double roller, you should be fine with the 130#

cheers guys,

Yea I asked him to put 105 lbs springs now... if i ever put a cam in it will only be a VS or XP at the most... and 105s should be fine for those small to medium size cams.
