Stock alternator options?

I have a 2001 GTP with the stock 105 or 110 amp alternator. For a while now ive had voltage regulator issues but not to the point that its not charging anymore. Sometimes in the morning the battery light is on and my volt meter in the trunk says 11 volts. After about 10 seconds its back to normal. I recently upgraded my sound system and have an amp that makes real power (compared to the old one) I just did the "big three" (or four in this car) upgrade to get the most out of this alternator. But it just doesnt make enough power plus the regulator issue.
So ive been browsing rock auto looking for a stock ac delco alternator. I dont think i need to go aftermarket h/o. I found the replacements for this car is 105 or 110. The buick park avenue ultra uses 125 amp. But the buick riviera uses 140 amp. I know these other alternators will bolt up but will the wiring harness plug in? I know there is a mod some do to get and extra 0.5-1.0 volts on certain years and it requires adding a pin to the harness. I just want to know if the riviera alternator is compatible with an 01 GTP. Or if there are other alternators that fit this motor without modification and is under $180 making 140 amps or more. The 140 amp ac delco riviera alternator on rock auto is $150 or $160
Ive been searching for this for about a month. Google, forums, everywhere. Also ive been leaning towards stock ac delco for reliability reasons. Ive had AWFUL luck with alternators in the past and want something i know is going to work.
Sorry if this has been asked already, I just cant find the answer anywhere.

You can build a high output unit for relatively cheap. Your car comes with the GM CS130D alternator. Google it up and you'll find rebuild kit options anywhere from 180-220A for like $100.

Hmm that is a tempting option. I imagine a rebuild kit would also include a regulator or at least the option to add it to the kit. Since not everyone needing a rebuild needs a regulator.

Any idea what a 04 has as far as the GM code?

I'll look it up and let you know. :)

EDIT: Physically, it looks like the 99-03 alternator. I can't tell about the connections on it. I haven't found anything regarding a high output unit, but you might be able to contact powermaster and see if they have any good info.

Will do thanks. Been wanting to upgrade without paying the $250+ cost for a HO. Difference is mainly its a 4 prong connection instead of the usual 2.

^^ stay away from power bastards.

Mechman
Singer alternators
Excessive amperage
Ohio generators
Tenney alternators
Irragi

Any of those company's build high outputs. You get what you pay for in that field just as most others car related.

Cool! do you know what alternator a 2006 base grand prix has? i'm definitly interesting in spending 100 bucks to get it to 180, if its possible.

Update. I decided not to rebuild the stock alternator and instead ordered a 145 amp alternator for a 97 Buick Riviera which also has the L67. Turns out DOES NOT FIT. Looks like they used a completely different body for the alternator. Different mounting points. I didnt think to check pictures on google images before making the decision to order it. Now I have two options. Either send it back and hopefully get a refund or try to take it apart and use the insides since they are supposedly the same thing. I would imagine this Riviera alt is a CS130D just different body? Either way its kind of dumb of GM to make a different bodied alternator for the same motor. Pictures of a 97 GTP shows an alt that looks just like the one in my 01 GTP. Even the Buick Park Ave Ultra looks like the same alt as the GTP. Im pretty sure that one is 125 amp. Unless because the Riviera was the first car to use the L67 in 1996 maybe it was before they decided to use the Cs130d and the one I ordered is actually just the CS130 and they kept it because the Riviera motor was already setup for that mounting style.
