still a little cloudy on tuning..

So, I've posted over on 3800pro.com, but am still a little cloudy on PCM tuning and when you really need it. Let me explain my situation..

1997-03 GTP
My planned mods are: U-bend delete, exhaust cutout, 3" downpipe, FWI or CAI. SHOULD I be getting any inreased KR with these simple mods? The only reason I would want a tune is to protect the reliability and safety of my motor, but I don't think I really need one for that reason with just these mods. The car will be my DD, and if I ever desire a smaller pulley, I will obviously get a tune/PCM. But should I get one with just these mods? Thanks Guys! Sorry for the common question again..

No. You don't need a aftermarket PCM for those light mods.

I don't see how you think those mods would increase KR anyways, they're meant to decrease KR.

I don't know what increases/decreases KR except that smaller pulley's without a tune increases it haha. But yes, it makes sense that those mods would decrease it.

Because of the added air flow on the intake side you could lean out, and therefore a little tuning may be a good idea. You won't know without scanning though.

btw...it was a good question, and I commend you for asking before you did the mods.

yeah he'll lean out but the pcm will make adjustments to get him back on track but it can still cause promblems with kr.

It would technically only lean out if he bored the throttle body more, causing the air velocity to be slower across the MAF. A less restrictive intake system up to the throttle body won't necessarily lean him out, because the PCM will make adjustments to the maf frequency from the feed of the air temperature.

That's my theory anyway.

Good to know, so all of this tuning has been a waste of time. I wonder why people dropping pulleys had to add fuel. idiots:D Time to load my stock tune and wait for the PCM to majically adjust the MAF numbers for me. Heck it takes the guess work out of it all.:th_king-evil:

haha man that be nice, but yeah looks like tunning is the way to go thats if you want you motor to run good or at all.

Alright, Lee....go ahead and mock me. That's fine and all....guess that's what I get for tying to help.

ok simply put the pcm has the ability to make corrections anytime more air is entering into the engine, now just putting a cam or somthing in and letting the pcm learn the the new fuel trims is a bad idea. sure it makes the corrections put it takes time for those corrections to be put into affect so you could be knocking your a$$ off before the computer has time to react to whats going on. so can we not fight over this stupid crap and get back on to the topic?

little bolt ons really dont require a tune but if ya have the ability to tune it will help, if ya kno anyone that can, take them up on the offer!
