Steering Wheel problem

I was able to find a steering wheel in the junkyard with the audio controls on it and went to install it in my car. I've got the puller attached to the steering wheel cranking the nut when I hear a crack. At first I though it was one of the puller legs. No such luck. The steering wheel cracked. Now my steering wheel is off, but the sleeve thats molded into the steering wheel is still stuck on the steering column. I need some suggestions on how to get that sucker out of there.

No, but I could rent one from AZ. The problem would be getting in behind the sleeve to get it off.

can you heat it up with out melting your column? and is there any thing left to get another type of puller on it?

The sleeve isn't that thick I'll see if AZ might have something. There's too much plastic right there to try and heat it up.

I assume the sleeve is metal (haven't seen the inside of my wheel before). Could you get in there with a dremel tool and just cut slots on opposite sides (like cutting it down the middle but w/o going through the shaft) and then use a chisel or punch to crack it in half around the steering shaft?

If done right you shouldn't damage the shaft.

I keep forgetting about my dremel. I'll give that a shot in the morning and let you know how it goes.
