Steering wheel and after market head unit compatibility question

Hey everyone. Was at the junk yard yesterday and saw a 2000 GT with a steering wheel with remote volume, tuning etc. Will this work on an after market (alpine head) unit? T%he alpine uses the cars builtin wiring via a purchased connector. Anyone here tried this yet?

I have used stock controls for years with aftermarket head units. The latest one was an Axxess unit that works awesome. Easiest programming so far.
