Steering Intermediate Shaft

I was talking to my buddy today and he works for GM as a Tech. and asked him if he could find out what the clunking noise that I had was... he took a look and said it was my steering intermediate shaft, so my question is how hard would that be to change? or would i be better off taking it somewhere?

Or you could try the quick easy fix to this problem before you fork out the money for a new shaft. all you need is a can of white lithium grease in an aeresol can sold at any parts store. If you look under your drivers side dash near you pedals you will see a rubber boot on the steering shaft, pull it down a little so you can spray the grease in there. Make sure the boot is back in place and go for a test drive, the clunk should be gone and you saved yourself some money. If this does not work you may need a new shaft, but this usually solves the problem.

Remove it & grease it with the right stuff then you will not have a problem with it again..GM tech shouldve told you GM makes a kit for it..I will get you a part # by the end of the day..

Nice! What kinda grease is it anyway? Pretty thick stuff i'm assuming? I may try this on mine, though with a 170k, i'm sure I need a new shaft anyway...
