I went to start my car this morning and the car will run for a couple of seconds and then die. It will do this everytime i try to start it. The security light isnt flashing so i know its seeing the key and i hear the fuel pump cycling on. We did have alot of fog last night and im wondering if its something to do with the condensation. Any thoughts?
 


Agreed, just wanted to see what year he was dealing with. I'd suggest the ol' fuel pump fuse trick.
 
I actually already have those wires for the fuel pump bypassed and the car is a 2000 gtp and a new maf sensor
 
When you turn your key on,does the security light come on and prove out?
This will verify the security light is working.

Try cycling your key to the on position from off several times.
Hold it on the "on" position for just a few seconds each time.
After about 5 times of doing this attempt to start it.
Does it start and run fine?
 


im having the same exact problem 2001 gp 3.1 start it will run like 3 seconds and will die if you try and start right back up(with out turning off) if wont run again but if you shut off and try again it will run 3 seconds. Only thing that seems to make it run is if I unhook the postive battery cable and turn the key for 60 seconds(without the postive cable hooked up it won't start and key gets stuck in the ingintion) and then hook back up the postive cable then turn key off and it will start and run just fine. it works for a week or so but the problem comes back. seems like coming back sooner and sooner now. and i'm getting tired of resetting my stereo lol. NO security light flashing or staying on(just the one sec when starting car then never comes back on) I have put a new battery new map senor new IAC, I am just stupmed. I am sorry did not mean to high jack thread but dont wanna post the same thing over and over again. Would this mean the PCM needs reflashed or? any idea's? thanks mike



ALSO i have tried both my keys, tried unlocking with both key fabs, tried unlocking with keys. my car has the viper keyless entry i have no clue if thats stock or not lol
ALSO i have a scanner from orileys and NO codes are comming up

And i'm guessing you haven't tried to do what I told him to try and do yet either.


Cars don't just "need" a PCM reflash.
When a PCM goes bad,it doesn't just "go bad" and need reflashed.
It goes bad on a single wire-reflashes are for driveability issues due to calibration.

i figured that was about the same as what i was doin with the battery cable and key next time it dont start(mostlikely later today) i will try that and let you know what it does

ALSO with mine the security light goes out when the ses light does

NOPE did nothing still had to disconect the postive an key trick to get it started any idea's?
 


Take it to a dealer,your unequipped to deal with it.
(i'm assuming you don't have a tech2,datalogger,multimeter etc...)
 
Just for the hell of it i went out this morning and rocked my car back and forth a few times, couldnt believe the car started, im thinking maybe a fuel pump issue or maybe bad gas? I use premium all the time(sc)
