I have a 98 grandprix that will not start. The battery and starter are both good. When I turn the switch on everything works and the fuel pump comes on but the the motor want turn over.If I turn the switch on and cross out the solenoid on the starter it starts right up and turns off with the key.I just bought this car and need to get it fixed asap any help will be greatly appreciated.

what happens when you try to turn the key to start? does it click? or just the dash blacks out, and no sounds at all?

could be dirty or loose grounds, on the trans bell housing, or even the battery, or maybe a bad ignition switch or harness. being you can jump the starter, and then it will run.

when I turn the key all I hear is a clicking sound from under the dash

have some one else turn the key while you stand over the starter. listen for it. im not aware of anything that would click under the dash.

when you say clicking, is it rapid fire clicking? clicks till you turn the key back?

most of the time a security issue, the car will start, but then die 10 seconds later or less.

The clicking that sound I am hearing sounds like a relay it is coming from around tha parking break a little grey box not sure what it is.

Is it normal for the Bcm to click when I try to start the car.I have still not found the problem with starting my car.I have checked all the fuses, all of the grounds and battery connections. The car still want start not unless I cross it out on the starter.Does anybody have any more suggestions.Could it be the ignition switch or VATS.
