Starter Removal question?? It is stuck on

On a non-Pontiac car I went to change the Starter. I have all bolts out. I have it unhooked. It is stuck on. I have been pounding on it. It wont come off. Can I re-hook the battery cables and bump the starter to see if that will help loosen it? Any suggestions? And YES, I have all the bolts off, there is nothing holding it 2010 Kia.

Any tips are appreciated!

i guess you can try to have some one bump it while you hold it and pull it off.

is there no wiggle to i tat all? i got no clue what a kia starter set up is, so im really blind on this one.

Car seems too new to have a starter rusted into place. Since it is not that old sometimes the simplest solution is the answer. Are you 100% you did not miss any hidden bolts?

I had this problem with my gxp. The dowels were holding it in place. Wasn't rusted just really stuck on there. I sprayed it with pb blaster and just pryed it at every angle I could get to and it eventually came off. One of the dowels even stayed on the car and I had to use vice grips to work it out. Good luck

Heck, if the starter is junk already just smack it with a rubber mallet a few different directions and see if it comes loose.

And a 2010 Kia what?? Might help if we knew the model and engine size. There may be a trick to it.

You are missing something.

Scott needs to move this out of w body....

There's at least one more bolt holding you up. Search on teh starter and get a picture. You likely will see where it's held up.

4 of my friends are techs at a nearby kia dealer.
Which kia and which engine do you have? I can ask em if there's more to it

Seriously? That's great. 2010 Kia Sedona. Seemed like straight forward job until I couldn't get it off. I put the bolts back in and punted and I am going to try another day (starter is intermittent)

They're telling me it's just the two bolts holding it up and it should come right out, they never had a stuck starter on any kia.

Is there a spot you can get a pry bar in to maybe pop it away from the block?

Magic.. gotta love it when something fights one day and you take the pass...then it works like a champ. Congrats!

I've had my fair share of that. One time in particular I was putting the trans back in my Stealth by myself. It was fighting my going back on the input shaft. I would get it on the shaft, but it refused to clock into place. I fought it for close to an hour and my back was starting to kill me. I threw it back on the floor and went in the house for a breather, went back out, grabbed the trans, and the fvcker slid right into place.
