SSIC vs S2IC ZZP recommendations

Getting ready to pull the trigger for a IC, my question is for those with experience with either one of these products. The main thing that's holding me back from the S2 ic is knowing that a trans upgrade will have to be right around the corner. For those with the SSIC do you regret not going for the full size ?

Just a quick note , E85 is not a viable option for me at this time , hence going the IC route.
 


when i was looking i was going to settle for a ssic, every one said not to get one and just go fsic. i waited long enough and one came up finally.

just paid for it last night :th_nanana: lol
 
Lucky! I would like to be high 12s eventually so that's pushing me towards the S2IC as well. I don't think the SSIC would be able to get me there by itself. . .
 
FSIC > SSIC

I wouldn't waste money on a SSIC, it won't cool the blower to much.. Going the FSIC route gives you way more headroom to drop pulleys.

There nothing real to it, it's rather easy. A bit time consuming because you'll be removing the bumper to mount the FMHE and pump and hoses etc

I'm so glad someone came infront of me and asked this...

Since I've been bullied so much, lol jk, I'm going to go ahead and grab an IC to work with the rest of the mods I have planned... (SD headers, CAI, 1.9s, pcm),

I decided, similarly to kew, that I want to go as close to the line as I can without having to beef up the trans or mess with the injectors/MAF/TB

it looks like a 3.2 is the smallest I can go before I have to mess with that stuff... and I'll be taking my car to get fully tuned after everything is installed, but I still have an overkill PCM set for the aforementioned mods before the tune...

I'm worrying about clearance issues with a full size and my 40th ann hood, so I'm actually back to considering the SSIC... would it be enough for a 3.2 with headers, 1.9s, and a tune, or would i still likely have to fight KR after heatsoak?

If I can get away with the SSIC and not have to worry about cradle spacers and messing with the geometry of the transaxle, I'd prefer that... and it looks like no-one is running the 40th-style hood with an intercooler so...

I'm waiting for black friday to decide specifically which brand IC i get if it's a full size, though I'm eyeing sseilmnop's IC above all, as it is the shortest next to the SSIC, I just wish I could know 100% what fits under this friggin hood
 
You won't need cradle spacers, you might have to take the drop tray off your scooped hood, but should be fine
 


cradle spacers are used for the 04+ cars. I have a 2001 special edition and had the phenolic intercooler. I also had lowering springs with engine and trans mount spacers to raise the engine and trans back up. I did end up cutting a hole in the hood and putting a scoop over it because the supercharger was too tall, but ive heard of other people that didn't have that problem.
 
I wouldn't say the SSIC is totally useless. The heat capacity all depends on how much coolant reservoir you install with it. The kit "as is" really doesn't have enough capacity to stay cool for more than a nice 1/4 mile pass. When I installed the SSIC in my sedan way back when, I added a larger VW Scirocco radiator as the FMHE and also added a reservoir, so I had about a gallon and a half of capacity. It was enough to knock down 3 to 4 degrees of KR on a 3.4 / PLOG / DP / 1.8 rocker setup and never got heat soaked at the track. It fit under a stock hood, kept functional PCV, and only needed a small mod to the stock fuel rails with a couple inches of rubber fuel hose to extend over the top of the blower.
 


The actual core you are using is 2 -1/4" thick, the actual heat exchanger? So basically you have no plenum area under (besides the LIM) or above the core? Not criticizing just asking.

The thickness of the Finns is about 1-7/8" thick.

The intercoolers are 2-1/4" thick. They can't be any thinner.
 
OK, thanks for the information the one I am working on it 3" thick with a 2" core so I was a little confused.

Appreciate the info.


I would agree the core thickness is key.
