srs module removal

rcode

New member
i have hade the srs lite on for a year so time to fix it . from what i read here the pass side seat will have to come out to get at the module . do all the bolts com out from the top or 2 go down and 2 go up also any other suggestions would b welcomed. thanks in advance ...lee

move seat forward, theres two bolts in the back track under the plastic cover. remove them, then the front rails have hooks at the front. i like to lay the seat back back some, then lift the back up, then lift the front up to get the hooks out.

thanks do i need to go through the srs disable procedure or just disconnect the battery before unhooking the module also is there a cut in the carpet or do i have to lift it all up...lee

i just un hooked the battery when i changed mine. dont forget to unplug the seat, all plugs are under the seat.

once the seat is out of the way. pop the plastic trim at the door sill. the carpet loops over the inside edge with loop/hooks. take the foot cover off the lower dash pass side, the kick panel then un hook the carpet, then lift the carpet to the box you'll see under the rug. its bolted down with 2 10mm bolts iirc.

raidio controls are good ... if you turn on the key without starting it does the srs light go out after a few seconds or do you have to start it . just trying to figure out how to test a module before i remove and buy it . also who sells remanufactured ones if i cant find a good used one???

theres a place on line that rebuilds them.

first take it out, if you see white corrosion at the bolts or the edges of the box, clean that up and the car body, and re install it.

some you can open up and clean further. some you cant. its a 50/50 shot if cleaning it will work. but its free.

dont forget to clean the plug under the drivers seat, and the end of the clock spring under the dash. its also yellow. ( any plug you find thats yellow is for the air bags)

is there a trick to get the plug off the module cant seem to unplug it .has a fair amount of corrosion maybe thats whats holding it

mine had a pin in the plug, and like a cover, its was a bit tricky to get open the first time. i wish i could remember more. keep at it.

got it apart and cleaned everything but still have light but now i have the numbers off it .apparently you have to be carefull to get the right one to replace it and im not sure witch ones would interchange-such as vehicles, years or numbers on the modules. does anyone know where i can get this info before i go to the wrecking yard for the module.to replace mine...thanks lee

id try to get one from the same year car, or at least write the part # and match em up if you can fine one a year newer or older in the yard. id bring a good sharp knife and just cut the carpet to get to it.

just an update ...got a new module from another car ,2000 gt it had the same numbers and luckily it had a battery so i could verify it was good.after installing it no more light . thanks a tonn to scottydoggs for all the help now the only light left is a intermittent abs one and i think its the front pass wheel so im off to look at the posts and how-to sections thanks again to everyone...lee

if you cant find a dirty or loose wire to a hub or a loose hub, aka jacked up pushing and puling the top of the tire if it has play it likely bad.

if you cant find any of these things its best to just pay to have it scanned at a shop, it beats tossing money at it with out knowing if it will work or not.

do hit a few shops and ask how much. i had shops that wanted 100, 80, 75, the last guy was 40, so i let him scan it.
