squeak on cold start

i think on of the pulleys is squeaking, but it only does it on a cold start and until the temp reaches operating level. the noise goes up with rpm. is there a common one that would cause the problem, or is it just a mystery until i pop the belt off and start checking?

check your belts out, twist them over to see if they are cracked or missing chunks, if so you need a new belt. could also be the tentioner has worn out.

i'll check the alternator belt, but the supercharger one is brand new just put on a few weeks ago when i did the 3.4 pulley swap

on the arm i believe is a mark and the part that stays still has 2 marks. the arm mark needs to be in the middle of the other 2 marks.

if that makes any sense lol

not sure if i understand the arm stuff. but i opened the hood and watched with the car running. the tensioner pulley seemed to be wobbling a bit

a worn belt or a bad tentioner could do that. they all move a little bit.

if you can start it and get your ear close to it while its still squealing that may lead you right to it.

in this pic. this is a sc tensioner you see the 3 marks in the black part, there are more marks on the body of it, when the belts on the marks should be close. or in the middle.

this one is the accessory belt tensioner. i dont see the marks in this pic but should be similar.

theres a corresponding mark, it needs to be with in the marks on the center part with the 4 lines, with the belt on of course.

if its close to the end it could be going bad.

also when you have the belts off, turn all the pulleys by hand see if they spin freely or have any side to side play. like in the bearing.

the center part with the 4 lines moves. the arrow stays put. it should be the only mark any where near the 4 lines when the belt is on.

well, id see if i could narrow down witch belt is squealing. take one off start it, if it still does it, take the other one off and start it up again.

then see if the belts still good, test the pulleys for play and smoothness.

if the belt is worn the tensioner will not be in the right place due to wear or stretching of the belt.

ill take a look at mine tomorrow and post pics of the marks if someone else dont chime in with a better answer by then.

alright, thanks. i'll check it tomorrow because the vehicle isnt making the noise now but i think that's because it's not cold. i find it a bit coincidental that this has happened shortly after the 3.4 pulley swap. so i have a feeling it's one of the pulleys on the supercharger belt, not the other one. i'll see if i can hear where it's coming from in the morning

so i think i have solved this problem. when i first installed the pulley (the wider 8 rib style) i put the belt in the middle of the groves and was told the motor would just pull it to the proper position. it ended up being pushed to the outer most side (near fuse box) to my eyes this didnt look to be aligned right. so this morning i pulled the belt off, and put it back on with the belt on the farthest inward groves of the pulley. now there are no more squeaks
