Springs loose?

Ok so today i pulled my front head because i wanted to replace with a fresh gasket because i was using a head gasket used and it looked bad and looked at the springs and saw this:

Should i replace the spring? or just reseat them and install the rocker?they dont look bent or anything thanks!!!
 


me too. what broke, i see a valve seal popped free and is at the top of the one spring. and the spring looks like its got no tension on it now.
 


No! Not better! How can the retainer be above the spring, with the keepers in place? Did your spring shrink? Either the spring shrunk, or the end of the valve broke off.

And your seal is off the guide. That picture is messing with my head. :th_sick1:
 
Thanks Scotty, I didn't want to lose my mind alone. I'm scared now. Slowly gonna slip under my desk and curl up in fetal position. There will be rocking and murmuring...
 
i hear ya. lol its got to be a broken valve stem

take the valve out, the locks will come out no problem the way it sits now.
 


that valve has to be broken. push the valve seal down off the retainer take the locks out and remove that valve, something not kosher with it.
 


take the spring off then remove the valve. see wtf is going on there. cant see how the retainer is a 1/4 taller then the spring when you need to compress the spring to get the locks in.

and your valve seals both lifted off in both them springs in the pics.
 
Look in the cylinder that is under that spring. There has to be at least one piece of that valve. Or it somehow stretched 1/2 an inch and managed not to hit a piston lol.

And definitely replace all them seals before you reinstall. I imagine the other head has loose seals too. Bet you had a nice puff of smoke every time you started your car.

If your on a tight budget I have an extra set of seals you can have for shipping. Accidentally ordered 2 sets when I rebuilt mine.
