Car is a 2002 GTP Coupe with GMPP F/R sway bars and strut tower braces. I replaced the OEM struts with KYB "strut-plus" all in one strut/spring units. These are "Excel-G" struts, SR-4002 (FR), SR-4003 (RR), SR-4004 (LR). Interesting note I used the struts on the 98 GT sedan and it rode great....yet KYB does not list them as correct fitment for the GTP.
Still not happy with the way it rides...I have been trying to dissect the ride characteristics, and I have concluded that the struts do a good job of removing the bounce, but the springs are just too soft. The sway bars helped body roll some, but the car still wants to dive into every dip in the road because the springs are just too compliant.
So I'm really not interested in lowering, but really looking for a stiffer spring that will firm up the ride and play nice from the Excel G's. I read the "Lowering" sticky and have been doing some research. The GMPP springs aren't available that I have been able to find, but found these AC Delcos' on Rock Auto:
19113809 Front GT & GTP
19113812 Rear GT & GTP Coupe
19113813 Rear GTP Sedan
I'm guessing these are "stock" springs, anybody know if they are firmer or softer than the ones KYB uses on their strut assemblies?
Also looking at the Vogtlands, which I guess would be OK since they only lower a small amount, but have been reading that Vogtlands will kill the Excel-G struts in 10k miles. Anybody have updated info on any of this?
