Spittin on boost

OK so heres whats happening. i did a coolant flush. well i got some on the motor so i hosed it off like my boss told me to. well i was like 3 minutes down the road and when i go on it and started making boost it started to spit like it was missfiring. does anyone know what is goin on? maybe cuz i got some water on the CAI? any help would be great
 


I havent ever experienced this problem so hopefully some one who has will come along and help out.

The only information i can give you is this: NEVER hose off or put water in your engine compartment. If you need to clean some oil or fluid off of anywhere around your engine i suggest break cleaner and compressed air.

If a car gets water into the engine [usually through the intake] then it would experience hydrolock but in that case your engine would cease to fire. Usually it is caused by allot of water getting sucked in while the vehicle is on. I don't know the effects of getting a minor amount of water in the engine.

That's hogwash. It's done all the time, but it has to be done right. If you have an open cone filter, cover it. Cover your alternator, and cover your coil packs. Everything else is water proof.

I imagine the problem lies with water in the coil packs or ICM.

Minor water into the engine happens every day and is no big deal. Hell, there's such a thing as "water injection". It's fine.

I just don't recommend it especially because as you said it has to be done right and allot of people don't know how to do it right. Also, pending on what engine you have water could get stuck in different nook and crannies causing corrosion/rust later down the line especially if you don't plan on driving the vehicle [to evaporate the water] after washing it.
 
Yea, I would suspect water on the coil packs. I had a set of wires one time that the boots didn't fit the packs tight and they got a little wet. I spitted a little when gotten on to. It was my dumb@$$ mistake. But, rinsing the engine with light pressure wouldn't be any more than running down the road when it's raining. I mean, I wouldn't hit it with a pressure washer or anything.
 
A requirement is that you start it up and watch it all steam away. Kinda unnerving all the steam coming from your engine bay. :th_laugh-lol2:
 


Yea, the grim always seems to come off easier when the motors hot. But, you'll have ones that'll argue that.
 
I am now getting the same thing. Except mine is I think because of the plugs I have. I switched from the stock type, to NGK Iridium TRI55X and I think they may be a tidge too warm. I hit 210 degrees where I am normally at about 180 so I'm guessing thats not too good.
 
Plugs won't affect your coolant temperature. If anything, a colder heat range plug will conduct more heat from the combustion chamber and transfer it to the heads/coolant. But, it won't be enough for you to notice a difference in coolant temp.
 
TR55IX is the name of the plugs. I am not really having any issues with coolant myself. I just have higher engine temp, and am sputtering, rather then with just the standard plugs, I had no problems at all, and the car hauled a** with no hesitations.
 
Could have a bad col pack. WHen I had one go out, as long as I drove normal, I had no problems. But if I got on it it would sputter.
 


Well, I fixed my problem. I went back to AC Delcos, and after cleaning them up with some carb cleaner, the GTP runs like a raped ape once again. The TR55IX must have just been to hot for wat mods I have. It also helped once I took off the Duece's and went back to the stock 16's with some cushion again. HAHA they looked dope, but didn't exactly have the most comfortable ride. O well, back to SQUEALLING AGAIN! :th_biggrin2:
