Speedomer/HUD

I have a 2004 GP. The HUD reads 5 mph faster than the speedo at all speeds. I believe the speedometer to be correct. I don't know the entire history of the car, trans appears original and tire size is factory . Its not any kind of deal breaker, but I would like to fix it if something easy enough. Any suggestions or input are appreciated. Thanks

John it's the motor in the speedo vs the electronics in Hudo most are off a bit and it's best to smile...use Hudson ND ignore the difference

Well if it isn't the jet setting traveler BillBoost, stopping by to pay the poor W guys a visit lol :) . Its not off on my GXP, so some are off isn't an excuse . I'm thinking VSS output sensor maybe? When you gonna stop by and check out the VW added to the fleet? Need little hands to work on those, not real fun!

Gotta learn how to work on them.... it's not an excuse..it's as real as the girls on this beach. Bonne was off about 5mph

You suck , send naked girl beach pics this time lol. I'm on 2nd shift now, so if your in town some weekend let me know. Thanks! Anyone else, Bill doesn't know how to fix something lol!

My youngest is learning to drive so I would like to fix it, I have been driving for about a year and a half like this and probably wouldn't even look into it if that was not the case.

Did you use GPS and computer/tuner/OBD2 reader to determine what the ECM speed is and compare it to Speedo and HUD yet. Need to figure out which one is off.

I did not yet, but good point and I will. Seems to me the HUD is fast by 5 MPH but I could be mistaken. I have the Torque app, I think that may work. Thanks

You can reposition the needle. I just did it yesterday. I started the car then stuck it to zero and matched up the tach, temp, and fuel gauges. It takes 5 minutes and a 7mm. Very easy.

Ok , so it appears that the torque app is saying the HUD is displaying the correct speed. To zero out the speedo you just pull straight back on the needle and place it starting at the zero position?

I believe Torque uses GPS for speed. Pull the needle straight up to loosen it before moving, then press it back on.

Also, the three cars I've had that were equipped with HUD ('97,'99 and '05) all had a difference between the HUD and needle.
