speedoand odometer stopped working

1999gpgt

New member
ok so i just bought a 99 gpgt today with 79,000 on it for 1100$. the speedometer stopped working two days ago and i dont know why. i tore apart the whole dash and didn't see anything really stick out to be wrong. i did nothing else. the tach works and so does the gas gauge and engine temp gauge. does anyone have any idea whats wrong and what to do to try and fix. and also i know its off topic but can i get a supercharger off a gtp and put it on my car, its a 3800 series 2. will it work or will it require severe modification

First off you can get a supercharger and put it on your car, it is called top swapping. Your tranny will not like the extra power but how long it lasts depends on you and your driving style. If you are going to top swap it, be prepared to do the tranny within not too much more time depending on how much you use the new power. There is an entire stickied thread devoted to this process in the naturally aspirated engine area...http://www.grandprixforums.net/f17/top-swap-info-faqs-also-lots-7763.html
To get to the VSS.... you have to remove the right tire and engine splash guard to get to it. It has a wiring harness that goes to the sensor which is located on the top part of the trans where the CV drive axle comes out of it. Unplug the harness and there is one bolt holding it on, remove, swap it out, plug it back in and put the splash shield and tire back on. the right side is the passenger side by the way if you didn't already know. I would also guess that this is your problem.
