There has probably been many a thread on this subject, you installed headers and now you're running a code that says you're too lean. So far no where ive searched on the internet had been able to help me. So I've installed a set of SD headers on my 2000 GT, and now i have the code. Ive searched for vacuum leaks, replaced the maf sensor, hardwired a zzp extension harness on bank 1, put band clamps everywhere i could fit them, and even put an o2 emulator on the downstream sensor in case it trys to run a code for no cat. Can someone please help me?
 


first thing id have tried to change wa the o2 if its factory, they dont last forever.

and if you failed to clearance the firewall for the o2 it could be hitting and is now bent and broken.

do you have any exhaust leaks on the headers? theres no reason to not be able to use band clamps on all slip joints.
 
P0171 is typically related to exhaust leak between header and head. I have also had an O2 sensor go bad removing it from one exhaust and putting it in another.
 
Also about the band clamps, the only place i couldn't fit one was where the crossover connects tonthe rear manifold. On speeddaddys there is bo room at all to fit one. I just used 2 of the ubolts thats came with the headers
 


But i also dont know where the exhaust leak could be. Ive checked the tightness on everything more than once. Aside from egr connection, just found out yesterday that it was leaking where the one bolt is to hook it to the pipe. But ive tightened it and cleared the code and it still came back
 
so theres still a leak?

and the band clamp, you did it wrong. you put the clamp on the rear header then put the cross over pipe in.

when the engines cold, fire it up and use your hands to feel for the leak, hot air is a dead give away.

and next big question is did you use the manifold gaskets sd sent you? or reuse the metal factory ones? cause the metal ones are the best and are reusable. sd ones can leak.
 
how the hell you mess up the stock ones, you dont even have to take them off the heads, the studs hold them in place for ya. ive reused mine 3 times now on sd headers.

if you can hear a leak, theres a leak. sea foam the engine, that will make it show its face.
 
Went out to my car on my lunch break to check out what i could. Ive heard your battery terminals could for some reason be a possibility, so i took them out and brought a wire wheel to them, turns out 1/3 of the threads basically melted together so i guess its time for new terminals. I tried feeling for a leak but all i felt was the air from outside blowing into the engine bay
 


Update, a few of my more mechanically inclined friends took a look at it, said they could hear an exhaust leak before i even pulled up and parked. He inspected it and said it was from the rear of the block. Ive heard the flex pipe on SD headers are complete ****, could that be it?
