Spectre interested in creating a CAI for the 3.8 GPs

I have been speaking with Spectre about creating CAI for our vehicles. Specifically the 97-03 3.8Ls. They have stated they are interested in creating CAI for us, but would like some further information. The questions they would like answers too are as follows:

1. Do you know anyone local to us that would be willing to let us borrow their vehicle? They are located in Ontario, CA

2. What do you and your fellow club members feel that a kit would be work, i.e. what do you think would be a fair price to pay?

They are talking about putting the intake(s) into production the 3rd Qrt of this year with their current build status that is as soon as they could get them in.

For those of you who don't know who they are here is a link to their website. hpR Racing

I have used their filters for a while along with K&N and have had no performance issues or valve problems in comparing the 2 products.

This is not a post to put a bunch of junk about which brand if better or if you do or don’t like this product it's about what you would like to see the intake look like and what type of filter and the overall price you would like to pay for it.

Any other comments please create another thread for.

i think (if i remember correctly) the K &N starts off as a FWI but doesn't go into the fender? But they also have the heat shield. I don't see any reason why that design is bad, but it's a K&N filter and high, brand name cost.

depending how long they would need the car i might be game

fair price would honestly be under 150 completely bolt on

ive always liked k&n filters and had a few of their cai's but it comes down to cost K&N being as big as they are can and do charge to much

I have also used spectra filters and never had any issues with them its a good solid filter for the price

either in the hood air box thats sealed with an out let into the fender or a fenderwell set up would be good 4" tubing nothing more then a 30* bend
Dont know what can really be done though

I showed them what most of us use with the 4" PVC and the flow numbers from ZZPs site, so they have that information and know about what it costs us to build the units most of us use.

I don't get why you all talk about 4" tubing so much. Either way, you're moving the same amount of air at the same speed into the engine. Can someone post some evidence to support why this works?

they should make it just like teh JMB fendewell intake

yeah, except less ****ty.

they should make two intakes: an FWI and a short ram. the FWI would mimic the JMB intake and the short ram would be similar to the K&N unit, but the need for a sealed box is completely unnecessary.

go to college and learn physics. the 4" has the ability to flow the amount of air the motors need when wide open throttle. a 3" is limiting the ability to flow, but increases velocity. for a blower car you want as much flow potential as possible.

Third on the JMB type good quality fenderwell intake. If its under 150 it will sell.

Just as long as it has some type of heat shield and a 22° elbow, 4" tubing and it's under 150 bucks it should outsell most stuff out there. Ask them to add Mexico shipping to their site too LoL. I tried to buy a 22° elbow from them and they don't have that option and the local autozone guys are morons who sell 4" filters and no 4" tubes.

Yes, but according to Q=VA and Q1 = Q2, flow rate is the same. I've spent a loooooong time learning about fluid statics and mechanics. I'm no pro, but by no means am I a novice. That's why I want to see some hard, dyno proof.

To the guy that posted the zzp test link, I can't tell if those pipes and number refer to just the pipe, or to the pipe flowing into the 3 1/2" TB.

I have sent the information on the JMB intake and should hear back from them soon.
Asked how long they would need the car for as well.

I use to sell a lot of dairy feed in the Stockton area. A lot of the dairy farms have left though with the water issues.

yea im actually in french camp theres still a few farms here one like 200 yards off my back fence

a lot of develepers have bought a lot of the farm land for more freakin tract homes

i have a spectre coupler to spectre tube to a K&N filter so i almost got a spectre intake already :th_jester:

what about makin a design like... dare i say.. TDCracing or whatever that fraud guys name was. i mean everyone was likin his design and its not mass produced anywhere. keep it cheap and it could set them apart from the competition by a landslide.
