Speaker and Stereo help

I just purchased a 1997 GT coupe. It has a crappy aftermarket stereo I would like to replace and it has all original speakers i would also like to replace.

The car has the 8 speaker "premium sound" option according to the original window sticker.

- I would like speakers that fit into the stock speaker mounts and locations.

do i need to replace all 8 or can i replace just six?

- also i would like recommendations on inexpensive stereo that will allow me to use the controls on the wheel and also not have to buy an amp for the speakers. also with an ipod and/or aux input on front.

you can get components for the front but you'd have to mount the tweeters in the tweeter pods yourself.

Oh and replacing six means all the woofers and leaving the front tweeters alone. that can be done.

Just find something that fits your budget or dare i say go to a sound board and take a listen. Note that will not be at ALL what your car will sound like with those speakers.

all speakers will require proper amps if they're decent speakers and you actually like to listen loudly.

If not, then any deck will be fine.

They're all rated for 14 W RMS at 4 channels anyways.
