Some Engine Swap qestions.

Ok so I'm going to be swamping this GTP motor with 78k into my GT in a month or so here. When ever I get the money up to buy some of the small things I need. But I wanted to ask a few things. I'm swapping both engine and trans from the GTP, being that mt trans has no 4th and 1-2 is hard. It was the reason I bought the car (Got it for dirt cheap), then I just decided to swap the entire thing over. So I have been asking on all the forums on what i need.

First question is about pulling my motor. I just drooped the sub frame and everything from the bottom of the GTP. But I have no lift, so what we did was use some chain falls and hook them to the front radiator support and lifted the body over both of them. But it bent the support so I didn't want to try that with mine. All i have is a few jacks, a bunch of stands, an engine lift and the chain falls. So i thought I might be able to get both out of the top because it would be easier and I could unbolt the A/C compressor and save some money on not getting that recharged. But I had people tell me that the trans has to come out of the bottom, but then I had people that told me it can come out of the top so I was hoping someone could help me out with that.

Also I have a question about the harness. I know i need to change out the outside harness for that computer and the MAF. But I didn't know if I would need to change out the inside. Taking that one out in the GTP I had was not fun. The only reason I see for changing that one out is to use the Display Computer with the boost gauge, if that's the case I'll just buy an aftermarket one.

But if anyone can answer some of my questions it would be a big help, thanks.

Oh and nice forums you guys have. I have read them for awhile but this is the first time I have posted.

Yea i saw that thread, I'm starting to think thats the only way. Pull the motor, then once its out pull the trans.

That I would be ok in doing when Taking it out being the trans is bad anyways, but i was hoping not to part the GTP engine and trans. Was trying to just put them both in. Someone told me you could and all you did would have to pull the axes, brake master and A/C dryer but wanted to know if that would work or not.

Thanks for the quick post.

All you have to do to be able to take both the trans and the engine out is pull the CV's from the transmission. Unbolt the A/C compressor FROM IT"S MOUNTS on the engine. You do not have to pull the hoses off of the compressor and let all of the freon out. There are three bolts that hold it on it's mounts. From there you just lay it on the sub frame.

Undo all of the wiring harnesses.

Unbolt the downpipe from the rear header.

Pull the engine and the tranny out at once. You do not need to take the brake booster, Master cylinder or A/C dryer out.

Hope that helped a little.

Thanks just really wanted to clear that up so I get to doing this swap.

Just need to find out now If I can change out the DIC to have a boost gauge, or do I need to change out the inside harness. If I have to change all that out just for that its not worth it I'll get aftermarket, but If I have to change it out to get this swap to work then I would.

Thanks again for the help.

Well I'm not too worried about power right now. Bought the engine and trans for realy just the trans. They where dirt cheap. My transmission right now has no 4th gear and the 1-2 shift is hard untill she gets warmed up. Been like that for like 6 months now.

Just seemed the easiest to swap motor and trans as a whole and wireing harness with the computer.

open up the transmissions and swap out the gearing. you want those 3.29 gears. the car will feel like a dog with the 2.93s compared to how it is now. just a heads up.
