sold out from under me

so i found some cobras on the cheapo. called the guy to see if he still had them...still does. tell him i want them and i have cash in hand. set up a time to meet him for wednesday. texted him this morning when i got off work to see if everything was still on...and the a$$hole sold them to another guy for the same price just because he could meet him like 12 hours sooner. needless to say im kinda pi$$ed right not. :th_angry-cussing::th_exploding:

That sucks man, i know what you mean. And most people tell you money talks blah de blah, but if someone tells me they will buy it and come withing a reasonably quick time with cash, then it should be yours. I hate people who sell it out from under you.

If someone is desperate for the cash, sometimes they can't wait those 12 hours. Also, maybe he got a lot of "I'll be there with the cash at this time" which turned out to be no-shows. I know I have gotten plenty of those, and I make it simple; First one with the cash wins.

I buy and sell a lot of stuff, and most of the time, I am going to sell it to the first person that shows up IN PERSON with the cash. I get 10 calls to one person showing up. I would have sold them also. Nothing to dis on you but I would rather have cash in hand than wait around on every person that called me.

this sucks, but when you buy and sell stuff online or paper, or whatever, its always first come first serve!
thank god this didnt happen with the gtp. sell the buick just to find out she sold the gtp 10 mins ago, i would have choked her:D

I don't wait for people. Gladly setup a time for them to come and get a product, but I always tell them that the first person with the $ that shows up gets it and to please call before coming to make sure the item is still available. No different than an item on the rack at walmart sellling out before you get there even though you saw it online and it said they had them in the inventory.

$ talks.....everything else walks.......as they say.

Does suck though. Put a down payment on an item so they wouldn't sell it and had a written paper for the down payment and they still sold it that day while I was at work. Than tried to keep my down payment. Hence the requirment for the paperwork when any $ is exchanged.

i had a worse one happen to me one time, this was at a used car lot too, not private people. i was looking for a camaro z28 and saw the perfect one, right price, 6 speed, everything. test drove it and loved it. told him since it was after bank ours and i had the money in the bank ($6k is too much to carry) that i would leave him a $100 deposit and be there the next day at the same time. he told me no no, its ok you dont need to leave anything, i will hold it for you, next day i call to say im on my way and they had just sold it to someone else! i was sooo pissed, i offered a deposit and i was paying cash and they didnt hold it. /rant

i realize its first come first serve i was the first and the guy was we had a place set up. o well if it wasnt ment to be it wasnt ment to be. prolly something wrong with em

All it tells me, is these people are NOT worth their word. And that is a BIG deal with me. I hate lairs. If someone tells you "it's yours" then it should be yours. I had the same thing happen on here. And I was basically told eh get over it. But I still believe that if someone says it's yours, then it should be. Tell the next person if the first person doesn't show then it's theirs. Unless you are told up front, first come first serve. Then that's exactly what it is. I get lied to daily with my job. It really starts making you loose faith in Humanity when almost everyone you meet lies. The one thing that no one can ever take from you is your word (honesty). Just ranting I guess...

It is yours. Until you fade away for a couple days. Number of times I've had someone chew me down over the price of an item just to turn around and flake: No less than 50 times since the beginning of the year.

And no, this isn't specific to you as I've never dealt with you. But for me, that's been a recurring experience (not on here really as I've not sold much). If you say you will buy something and don't give me a time-frame of when you are going to pay, I'll give you some time (12-24 hours depending on the circumstances) UNLESS someone else is interested and has cash-in-hand as it were. But you will get a note from me letting you know that the item has sold.

At the end of the day, it's business. Communication is paramount. Both parties need to set the expectation of the other party. :)

if you agree on a price.... pay it right then and there. I always have because I want the part ASAP and the seller wont release it without payment.

Bingo. Most of the time, I don't even haggle over the price. I know what it's worth, and I'm not wanting to lose out.

To me, it's real simple. If you operate on a first come, first serve basis as a seller, then say so. Don't lie to someone and tell them you will hold for any time period if you don't intend to. Bottom line: do what you say. Hold it or don't hold it, but let the potential buyer know where you stand.

Agree 100%. The last time it happened to me was on here. The guy said (Pm'ed) it's yours. I asked how he would like to receive payment? He said paypal and that he would give me his paypal account. I waited, Pm'ed him again the next day and asked for it again and again the next day. He finally sent me a message that it was sold. I was like what the hell????? But sh%t happens. I got over it. Life is too short to worry the little stuff. But NOW I have purchased a XP cam from Thomasj and I'm not sure what's going on??? I sent paypal on 6/14/2010 and he told me he got it. Then nothing. I have sent him a Pm every day since asking for the tracking # and have not heard anything. Anyone know him. Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread...
