• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

So I've been thinking and I wanna do a top swap....

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

that shows you all the junk yards around you that have the parts.

there is probably 8-10 gtp motors around here, and they sell the whole motor for about 700$

the gt trans and the gtp trans is the same trans, but the gt has better gearing. if you blow the gt trans, you will blow the gtp trans....

thanks for that website, I found a couple engines for around $500. maybe if I do a top swap/engine swap I'll make more friends on this forum lol

Topswap will be faster than an l67 swap. And don't worrk about the trans, the gt trans has 3.29s anyway.

your going to want all the breathing mods, see my sig. IMO rockers or cam or both is a nessesity along with headers

why sink all this money into the car to have it blew up because you dont have someone to properly dial it in?

I mean what needs to be dialed in? all the wiring and everything hooks up fine, what am I missing? is the stock pcm going to over power something? I'm confuzzled.....:(

say you do a top swap, you need to adjust timing in the pcm because you cannot command 22* of timing with 8 pounds of boost, unless you want to pick pieces up off the floor. fueling needs to be changed as well. the car needs to be tuned properly, not an off the shelf zzp pcm(ask me about my experience) not to sound like a jerk but you come off as someone new to the 3800 so i wouldnt go sinking money into a "top swap" because it is the "it" thing to do to a GPGT. have you ever tore apart an engine before and put it back together? sure it sounds easy but vac leaks make lean conditions, lean conditions shatter pistons. this can turn into a money pit and leave you frustrated, its your car you can do what you like, im just throwing out some real life reasoning.

I'm not "new" to the 3800, but I've never tore one apart or done much work to one. i've tore apart several 3100's and 3400's couple 4.3's. swapped engines, I put a 3400 top swap on my 3100 monte. I've been reading up on the whole "top swap" deal, and I'm deffinatly leaning towards just an engine swap, I mean i've done a few engine swaps, and to me that was easier then doing the top swap on my monte. I deffinatly understand where your coming from trying to help, I'd rather have you tell/inform me then to top swap, start the car up and have to pick up the pieces off the floor.
