So I went to the track right?

So i finially made it down to the track.

This time it didnt rain so i was able to run.....

Sad to say i was able to hook up better on the street than on the track. The reason being is that my parking brake is not working (worn out) so i couldnt do a burnout for long enough to even heat up the tires.Man i tried everything...driving around the wet box then doing a burnout....I mean everything!!! Couldnt hook up in first for nothing!!! I had to barely ease out of the lights for it not to spin.

Oh yea and I forgot to flip the switch for my v-tec to kick in

Anyway enough with the excuses the best i ran was a 14.4 easing it out of the lights untill about 15ft with the following mods...

race weight-3535
1999 gtp
ss p-log
160 t-stat
wrapped crossover
trans shift points/firmness adjusted
2.5 dp

No engine tune

r/t-.322 - Dont ask
60'-2.1
1/8-9.328
1/4-14.45
Mph-96.57

With some slicks and an e-brake how much do you think i could shave off? I was thinking i could hit a 14.25 for sure. and even lower with a good r/t

All you need it s quick clean off on the tires. Doing a burnout on street tires with actually hurt traction (balled up rubber). Heating them up is not needed. For your trap, your ET is just about spot on. For a flat 14/high 13 you will need to trp around 99. So you need to get a little more power in there.

slicks will help you out a lot, but the e-brake? what do you mean by that?

why dont you just stand on the regular brake and hold the gas down like everyone else does?

^^^ yeah, regular brake does work fine, and slicks may hurt your trans, I would rather burn up some rubber than tear apart my trans :)

Yeah i know about the clean off of the tires. I wasent able to do a burnout and heat up the tires because of the ebrake not working...i always try to drive around the waterbox but in 1 of the lanes you cant so i rolled through the water thats why i would try to do a burnout...

I dont care what anyone says...that vht that they spray on the track serverly hurts you if you dont heat the tires up first...example...drive around the water box and clean the tires off real quick. I did that and if i floored it off the line i would spin all the way to the top of second.

For another example they had a 05 corvette doing 14's becuase of the traction issues.

but like i said i have always hooked up better on the street....compared to if it was raining and your driving your gtp and you floor it from a stop....i was able to hook up just a lil better than that....

I looked at my scans and the highest i got tps wise before i floored it was 35% and i was going 9mph and i still could tell that i was spinning when i looked in my rpm's in that area.

Oh yea and that vht stuff comes out of a sprayer its not like sticky glue when they spray it down you have to heat up the tires before it becomes that way....thats why i said i needed an e brake...because they spray that vht crap all over right before the staging lights...and there is no driving around that

i wasent using the e brake for a brake before i launch...i was trying to use it so i could do a burnout. that is how i launch...1 foot on the brake and 1 foot on the gas:)

sounds more like a bad track than anything else, I have run on street tires a few times, and never heat them (the one time I did to see if what people told me I found it was true you don't have the traction) but that track cleaned the track any time someone oiled the track, and they cleaned rubber off regularly (one car we ran radial ta's on and it had 500hp and spun very little off the line considering)

doing a burn out on street tires would hurt your perfomance...this is what Vogel was getting at. the street ties do not have the same chemical composition as DR's or even slicks. most fo the rubbers in street tires have a high silicon content. add heat and you get a nice slippery surface contact.

you pulled a 2.1 60ft...that is not bad...tells some traction was there.

for your mods, that time is very good. congrats!!! also it is early in the season..so I bet the track had yet to lay down and vht to help aid in traction. your times would get better witht he slicks. or even a drag radial for that matter.

I'd say .3-4 of a second.

ok well let me get your opinion on something.... you are correct about this being early in the season because this was only the 2nd race of the year....do you think vht and cold street tires(no burnout) hurts performance more than vht and heated street tires(doing a burnout in the vht with street tires)??

i agree with you and everyone else compleatly on not doing a burnout with street tires...always will always have

but....

when they spray vht on the burnout pit right before you roll through it (not doing a burn out because you have street tires) if feels like your playing in the rain lol...agree? or not?

When i did do a burnout in the vht(as much of one that i could do) i could hear the tires sticking to the ground pulling up to the line as well as when i was slowing down after the traps....it just sounds like you got something sticky on the bottom of your shoe and your walking on your kitchen floor...best way i could describe it:th_laugh-lol2:

and that i belive is the reason why i could hook up better when i did do a partial burnout in the vht...again my tumes ranged from 14.45 -16.50's lol...pretty bad imo

But anyways...wow .3-.4 off of my et with slicks? thats good to hear....i am happy with the times but even more happy that i know i can still improve without more mods to the car itself....

Does anyone else agree with him on the .3-4 of a second quicker??

Thanks again for all the comments:th_thumbsup-wink:

I wouldn't be complaining if i were you. 14.4 is a very decent time for an almost stock GTP. But if you think launching is hard right now, just wait till you start droppin pullies. That's when the real skill comes into play. Very good runs though, nice job.

Billy(fastkatt) borrowed my set of slicks. he went from running a high 13sec pass. down to a 13.2........slicks took .5 off his times....and I believe gained 1-2mph through the traps. but he also has a smaller pulley(supporting mods) and torque.

torque is the key here.

you are still running stock pulley? you should at LEAST drop .2 off your 60ft times...which can either hurt your topend...or if you have the power to back it up...help you out. this can even be accomplished with a drag radial. I had friends pulling 1.8-1.9 60ft times on a 255/50/16 BFG. I had stock RSA's on mine and was pulling 2.0 60's. it all depends on how well you can launch the car. how well you feather the gas...etc. slicks you can warm them up..and just hammer down.

yeah still stock pulley....trying to get all of my mods on so i can run a 3.4....pretty much all i have left to do are some rockers and some porting work to a cupple pices of the engine....

Do you think i will blow my trans having slicks on there and making a cupple passes??? or do you think it can handle it a cupple times?

the stock trans will/can handle a few passes. if you go out every weekend and do it..then your trans wont last very long.

rockers help out quite a bit. with the 3.4 and rockers..and your other mods...I can see you hitting around a 13.7ish.

good luck with future track days!! get your launch down pat...that should help you out in the long run.

Slicks will actually LOWER your trap speed. Too wide of a tire and underinflated at that. Your top end will suffer severely. An example of this is my 13.9 @96 MPH. I also knocked out a 13.9 @ 94 MPH. Left the shifter in 2nd all the way through and bounced the rev limiter.

Was that on race fuel? Just throw on race fuel and drop to a 3.4" You shouldn't need much else to drop pulley sizes. Slicks will help but your going to be spending $300 on them to drop .2-.3 off of your time on a stock tranny:th_angry2:. After that, you can only use that at the track and say you ran 13.XX on race setup. I would rather spend that money for slicks on a mod that will stay on your car all times. I'm not buying slicks until I push into the 12's or find it cost effective.

It's nice to set a car up for race form, but when you have a relatively stock car and start telling everyone you ran a 13.XX at the track and then they smoke you on the streets, it's a slap in the face. I think daily drivers should be kept in street trim for the track unless you have a serious daily driver... My .02 cents

no....no race fuel...your probably right about the slicks..just nice to know that the option is still there though

I noticed you said that you're, "flooring it off the line". That's a huge problem right there. I'd spin my tires into second gear if I did that as well. What you're looking to do is evenly roll into the throttle. One even, smooth, sweep. My best 60' time to date is with my GT on stock Goodyear Eagles, 2.12.
