smoke out tail lights

I was wondering what the best way is to smoke out tail lights/ head lights and what problems could arise if I do

Best way is a mix of clear and black. The exact mixture is though to figure out.

I wouldn't smoke your headlights, though. Reduced visibility is not something to play with.

Either have them painted very lightly like Sabrewings says but if not you can get the smoking spray and go over it with clear.

yea vht nightshade is the way to go probably. i wanna do it so badly. for the headlights though i have avs covers that are black so i can take them off at night

niteshades suck!!!
Niteshades look good when done properly, but a lot of people don't do any prep work and can't spray it on correctly to save their life so it gets a bad rep. I did my tails with Niteshades and I think they turned out pretty good.

While it looks like you did a good job, Niteshades does suck. My tails were completely black when I did them 6 months ago and now it is all pretty much almost worn off and it looks like they just have a light smoke to them. And they do have clearcoat over them too.

1/2 oz black to 7 oz clear if you want a light tint.

1 oz black to 7 oz clear if you want a medium to dark tint.

still too light add additional coats till your satisfied.

then use 2 coats quality clear.

Did you wetsand between coats? Did you wax them after they were done?

Sanded the tails completely, taped off the reflector and rubber, 1 coat nightshades, sanded, 1 coat nightshades, sanded, 1 light coat of clear, waited till clear got tacky so additional clear had something to hold on to, 1 heavy coat of clear, waited till dried, wet sanded, buffed with 3M, waxed.

You must have gotten a bad batch then or used a cheap clear. These are three years old now and I did them myself.

what brand of clear do you recommend? also, any tips for wetsanding when finished? i ordered my vht nightshades about 2 days ago, and it should be in any day. i want to make sure to do these right!

its all in the prep work and TAKE YOUR TIME!!! cant stress that enough people dont take there time when working with paint and they get s****y results.

uses Automotive clear & not a spraycan. Spraycan will look like sh** down the road. Here automotive clear
