Sluggish throttle response

My '01 GTP has a really slow throttle response. I just bought the car, so I'm not sure where to start. I don't know if it does it while driving, and I don't know if it's just because it's s/c, never had a s/c car before. Basically, if I tap the throttle real fast, or floor it real fast at an idle, it kinda bogs down first and doesnt react very fast. I'd say it drops down to roughly 400-500rpm. When the car's been running for awhile, it runs pretty hot (constantly between half and 3/4 on the temp gauge, but at this point it, the throttle response is great. Am I just being picky and don't know s/c cars? Also, after revving it at idle, it comes back down to normal idle then surges to about 1100-1200rpm, then comes back to normal. Again, is this normal? It is showing a P0102 (MAF). I cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner, but I do not have a code reader to clear it and see if it comes back yet. I will do that soon with a friend's code reader.
I also noticed the coolant elbow is leaking slowly at the intake/belt tensioner.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Replace the coolant elbow. And u could take off ur throttle body and clean it. Very easy. There's a wrote up on how to change the elbow in the how to section

Go out and buy yourself a code scanner, one that can read codes, clear codes, and show live sensor data as the engine is running. ALso, there is really no need to free rev your engine at idle. If your car runs fine under normal use, such as city driving, or at WOT, or any driving condition in between, free revving the engine does nothing but maybe get you attention from maybe the girls walking on the sidewalk, or the guy in the next lane thinking you want to race.
If one of your coolant elbows is leaking, good idea to change out both while you have it apart.
 
I would assume the plugs and wires to be stock or stock replacement.
I will replace coolant elbow first and see if it helps with running hot. I'm only afraid that it looks fairly new, so maybe the old one broke and it might have overheated, maybe causing head gasket damage. I hope not.
Also, for now I will just borrow my friends scanner to see if the code comes back. By chance, does anyone know if the maf sensor on my 03 GT will interchange with this 01GTP, so I can just switch them and see if it's the sensor?
I don't revv the engine to et attention, I just bought the car and was working out some bugs and noticed its slow response on revving at idle. I don't revv it high at all, just noticed if I punch the throttle quick once, it bogs down first
 


If your p0102 doesn't go away on it's own your maf is bad. I replaced mine when I had that code and the light went out on it's own.
