07 gxp 5.4l. Knock on every start then fades away. The knock is louder when it's cold out. I am thinking I need to replace the lifters. Does anyone have any input or suggestions?

I just read up on it and it doesn't seam to damaging, but to me any noise like that can't be good. What's the fix? Piston rings and seals?

^^^^ most just run with no problems. Not sure what the fix would be new Pistons. Something to do with short skirts on the Pistons.

Probably a noisy lifters. These dod lifters suck.

If you really want to fix it, delete the dod, get new lifters and cam and be happy.

I am not sure the car has DOD. I have not came across it in any of the repairs I have done. What the best way to tell if it has it or not?

All ls4 engines came with it I believe. It may be called active fuel management on yours.

Not sure, my 08 g6 with the 3.5L chirps loudly on first start. You can hear it 200-300 feet away. Its one quick chirp then done. My brother bought the same style car, 08 g6 gt coupe in 09 with 22K miles. His did it until he sold it at 105K miles. I think its just the belt, i bought a gatorback belt for it.

I need to do the coolant crossover gaskets soon so ill throw the belt on and see. Mine has 103K atm. Does it on cold starts, but in summertime it does not do it at all. Had car since 85K
