siphon fuel from tank

On Sunday I filled the tank on my wife's 2004 Grand Prix. On Monday somebody in a Tahoe ran a red light and slammed into her driver side fender, breaking the sub frame, totaling the car. :(

The insurance adjuster will be at our house Wednesday morning and before the wrecker shows up to take our car to the soup can factory, I want to siphon the fuel out of the car.

I know there is some sort of a ball in the tank or filler neck that prevents fuel from being siphoned with a simple hand pump.

what is the best way to recover the fuel from this wreck? Does it involve removing the filler tube from the tank and fishing the siphon hose in the tank from there? I also thought about pulling the fuel pump out through the access panel in the trunk, but I'd rather not crawl around the trunk.

Anybody ever have to recover fuel from an '04 Grand Prix?

Thanks.

open the trap door in the trunk remove the fuel pump suck the gas out.

if 04 was the year that dont have the trap door, you can take the fuel line off the rail and jump power to the fuel pump relay to make it run, then add a hose from the line to the other cars tank.

Yeah, I think I will go ahead and draw the fuel via the fuel pump access panel in the trunk.

What a waste having this car destroyed.

I did this a few weeks ago with my sons '04 that got totaled with a full tank of gas. Lower the rear seats for access to the fuel pump trap door. Pull up the carpet and take the screws out of the trap door. There will be three hoses attached to the pump. Remove the rear most hose and install a clear vinyl hose to the nipple (bought at Lowes I think it was 1/4" hose). Place the other end into the gas filler neck another car. In the under hood fuse box locate and remove the fuel pump relay. Use a small piece of insulated wire with both ends stripped and place the ends into slots 30 and 87. That will turn on the pump and it will run until you remove the jumper wire. Fastest, easiest and safest way to get the gas out of the tank
