*Sigh* Brake Light Turned On Today, Need Some Help

Hippo Machine

Because Wet Leaves
Ok so today I was driving my car and I just randomly noticed the brake light was on, with the exclamation point and parking "P" both illuminated. I'm not sure why they went on but here are the only things I can think of that might have influenced it:

1. Yesterday I sprayed wheel and tire cleaner all around my wheels and tires (duh) but I got some on the rotors and possibly brakes.

2. When I got in the car for the first time today I kind of was stretching and I pushed the brake pedal down all the way for some stupid reason. I heard something but it was at the same time as when I shifted into reverse, so I don't know if the sound had anything to do with the brake lines or anything.

It is definitely is not harder to push on the brake pedal. And to tell you the truth, I can't really tell if you have to press on the brake more to come to a stop than normally.

I checked for leaks, didn't see any drips or puddles. Checked the brake fluid level, it seems normal.

I engaged and disengaged the parking brake multiple times to make sure that wasn't setting it off for some reason.

Please help! I know I shouldn't have been driving with the light on but my brakes seem fine, I'm just really paranoid. Should I go to the mechanic tomorrow? Rarrrr what should I look for?

Thanks for reading :)

Well I checked this morning and the fluid is obviously lower. There is a wet spot under the fuel filter area and right in front of the fuel filter... time to take it in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God dang it! Anyone know how much this is probably going to cost?

just fill it with fluid and see how fast it's leaking. If it's not leaking out in a week or so you can get by with it for a while.

Ok so my dad thinks it might have something to do with the fuel filter I just had changed, because the leak is right by the fuel filter. Maybe the mechanic did something? Idk...

Would it be best to change the whole hard line? Is it possible to do that? I just don't want it to happen again.

did you check that propotioning valve (i think that's the name)? its a cylinder looking part on the rear brake lines. mine started leaking a while back and it cause the light to come on my dash too.

check under the master cylinder, you may have blow it out when you stood on the pedal for no reason.

you can also cut the line where its cracked, if its cracked that is, cut it, and slap a compression fitting on it and be done with it, if its in a straight area, if its in a bend you can buy a short piece of tubing and bend it to fit, and use compression fittings on both side where you cut out the old brake line out.

did this repair in a parts store parking lot one winter when i blew a line, they had everything i needed to fix it, pipe bender, pipe, and compression fittings. i hit the guy in front of me, right in front of a parts store, how lucky is that?

if you got the abs lines all over the one side of the master cylinder, look around for 2 bleeders on it, they face the front of the car. bleed them, if you have them just like a caliper, pump, pump pump, hold, open bleeder, shut, repeat.
