Side mount intercooler

I have an 02 gtp and was wondering if a side mount intercooler would be enough to cool the engine at least a bit and if so what size piping would I need?
 


How do you plan on managing the outlet of the supercharger back to the inlet of the manifold? The only manifold that is made for an air to air intercooler is about $800 and comes from Australia.

you might be able to make it work for something small like a transmission cooler, but it would still have to be in the front. there isn't really much space on the sides. I entertained the idea of a top mount intercooler for a while, like the Subaru has, but it would probably look dumb, and would be a lot of work.
 
I was going to take the windshield fluid thing out and put the intercooler there. Now I need to say that this will be on a stock gtp, no turbo but I will be dropping to a 3.4 pulley asap. Also the idea of a top mount intercooler would be sweet. It may take some work but it can be done. Just would have to run it like a subi lol
 
why not just run the right intercooler? and you dont need a ic to run a 3.4 pulley as long as you have headers. headers are your first mod too, you should not drop pulley till you got headers on first. or this asshole named chip shows up and ruins the party.
 


you know about the tranny your gonna need if you go turbo? and you really dont want to be different in this case lol.

taking the windshield washer reservoir off for an intercooler doesn't seem like a good idea to me. the problem with the top mount intercooler is the pressure areas around the car. people put the intercooler in the front for a reason, it gets the most airflow going through because of simple physics. a top mount intercooler has less pressure because there is a lot of air flow over the area, so in order to make the intercooler effective, it would have to stick up a bit out of the hood area. the lesson is this: can it be done? yes of course, is there a reason people don't normally do it? also yes of course. also consider the Subaru only has a 4 cylinder engine, and doesn't need near as much cooling as a V6.

if you aren't going to run headers, don't bother with a 3.4 pulley. there is another physics lesson, what goes into an engine, must come out, or problems like a chipped piston are going to arise. you could install an intercooler like the one Scottydoggs has, and use it for a turbo, another member used a similar intercooler with other mods and ran a 2.6 pulley, and had plenty of cooling, then switched to a turbo, and it still cooled the air very well.

if you plan on running a turbo at some point, do yourself a favor and keep it simple. there is a reason the large majority of people have a simple front mount intercooler.
 


Skip the pulley drop. save money turbo builds get expensive FAST! Get a normal intercooler like every one else or if you want to be different run a f body set up and fight to cool it down lol. There's a couple guys who are running f body intakes. I'm starting to get together my own set up for one. Takes lots custom stuff and I have yet to see any two set ups done the same
 
Appreciate the insite guys. I wont be doing a side mount intercooler. Will be doing a front like normal lol. Would I gain any power if I put an intercooler on a stock gtp?
 
it cant hurt. key is to have a tuner, so you can play with the timing, stock pulley on a fsic im sure can run up to 19-20 degrees.


just a tune can and will wake the car up some too. with out mods.
 


Just tune it but like I said before if going turbo why spend money now that you might undo later for turbo set up. Scotty knows his stuff listen to him.
 
Thought about this for a bit you could run a side mount A2W intercooler on a blower setup infact I have seen it done before on a twincharged regal that used a A2W intercooler on the side and turbo with A2A on the front mount if I remember right.
