should i top swap?

having topswapped and blown it up i says its less work to go with a full motor and trans swap. you'll have less to worry about with the L67. look here for whole motors and trans in your area. car-part.com and try to find a 98+ gp, the others had some slight differences in trans setups.

I agree motor swap would be easier if you dont want to but a new GP, especially since you are replacing the tranny too.

If you want to drop pullies in the future on a top swapped motor, i would get a MPS and some bigger injectors. I hear top swapped motors need more fuel so you need to upgrade injectors sooner. But you'll also probably need at least rockers, if not a cam to drop below stock pulley size.

would the trans just drop in or do i need anything else to make it work?

if i buy a top swap kit from ed containing:
heads
valve covers
lower intake manifold
injectors
fuel rail
supercharger
TB (no maf)
vac lines
idler pullies
brackets
balancer
what else do i need and
about how much will gaskets run me?

you will need a l67 map
retuned pcm with top swap tune
belts
gaskets lim $55 s/c gasket oem not garlock $9 tb gasket $7 black rtv $7 injector orings $5 lim orings $5 head gaskets $68 probably best to change s/c coupler to $30 s/c oil $16 oil filter $7 oil pick up enought to do 2 oil changes so u can flush the engine after u replace the lim gasket so like 10l $30 probably do plugs to so another $12 someone correct me if i missed anything

ya definitely gonna just get an l67 and 4t65e. I plan on doin it when it gets warmer and i'm outta school late june or early july (I'm still in highschool).
My budget is about $1500. Is it possible on this budget or will i end up with an engine and trans that will decide to quit on me?

when looking for an engine and trans how many miles are too many?
When i do the swap I plan on dropping pulley sizes with the engine eventually not sure when.
i found a engine for $450 that has about 155k on it and a trans that has 142k for $350. Should i be looking for lower mileage parts, if so how low? I wouldn't really want to spend more than $1000 on an engine and trans because i want to get headers and a dp aswell.

Its more of a question of what you are comfortable with. As long as the owner didnt totally neglect it, the block will almost always be good. the trans however, it will be a toss up. the lower the better.

the only thing is i probably will be buying it from salvage yard because i can't find anybody selling engines or transmissions from a gtp in my area

Don't bother unless the car is a racecar. Topswapping is a pain in the ass just like a motor swap would be. Stick to stock.

Ask me how I know!

find the lowest mile trans you can then find a engine with what you have left the trans is likely to go before the engine just refresh the lim gaskets and so on
