Should I change my fluid?

So I got a GP GT a couple weeks ago with 167k on it. Ran alright but needed a few things put new plugs and wires on it new pcv valve. Anyways the plugs still had the paint dots on them indicating they are from the factory and the wires also where original so i assume whoever had the car neglected it. Anyways i was going to go ahead and change the trans fluid but i dont know if it's ever been changed before and i've heard if you go over 100k without changing it it's a better idea just to leave it alone cuz sometimes you'll change it and it will start slipping.

No its not slipping at all it works great. I just wanted to change it cuz the fluid isn't as red as I'd like it to look. It's got a brownish tint. But doesn't smell burnt fortunately. I'm just gonna do what Bill said. I may add lucas anyways just because...... I run their oil in all my engines and its never let me down. Lol

If you drop the pan and change the filter that should remove about 8 quarts and another 4 quarts will remain in the torque converter. However, before you do anything look at the fluid. If it smells burnt it might be too late to do any good.

Lucas Transmission Fix claims to restore old fluid so adding it might help restore the 4 quarts left in the converter. I can't say enough good things about Lucas although you will get plenty of people claiming it's worthless snake oil (most never used it or the transmission was beyond help).

I can tell you it resolved hard shifting and slipping in my Grand Prix. Every mechanic I spoke with said I would be wasting money using an additive and it was time for a rebuild. 25,000 miles later it's shifting smoother than ever and hasn't slipped once so I can only assume they wanted my money for repairs. I'm due for another fluid/filter change soon and of course will be adding Lucas again.

Edit: I see you said the fluid doesn't smell burnt. I would definitely recommend adding the Lucas with a new filter.
