• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Should I be pissed?

I opened up the transmission and found a couple things that surprised me.

1) Of all the connetions for the wire harness, only two of them were not broken and were locked into place, I think there were 4 other connections where the locking mechanism was broken and the pieces not anywhere to be found.

2) I found a bolt just sitting in there, not at all tightened, just loose and would have fallen out if the housing was not there.

This transmission was serviced by AAMCO a few years ago (about 32K miles ago) and the car has been sitting in the garage for 2 years. Does this surprise anyone? Should I be pissed? Is this the cause of the P0742 codes I was getting? Do I need to replace the wire harness (my gut says yes).

AAMCO is the same company as MAACO if that tells you anything (all are independent, but training is not a priority)

That wire harness should be thrown out and replaced. Often shops will at least try to zip tie the connectors on the solenoids so they dont have the chance of falling off over time but thats still not the right way to fix the problem. The clips will get brittle and break when the transmission temps get really high and the trans isnt serviced or the radiator cooler isnt doing its job. Age really doesnt have anything to do with it, just heat. The bolt is hard to say, people make mistakes. Sure you have every right to be upset about it and I would be too but there is really nothing that can be done about it. Whether it caused your code or not who knows, lose bolts can cause pressure leaks.

Just tighten the bolt, replace the harness and you should be good to go, assuming it worked fine before that is. Can't really make them do anything about it since it was done so long ago now.

I agree, I know I can't do anything about it now.

But it just makes me mad that I paid so much money for such crappy work.

ANYWAY, is the wire harness a dealer item, or can I find a used one somewhere? I saw a used one on Ebay for $10 bucks, but should I just get a new one?

He does? I looked on the parts page and didn't see any wire harnesses

Yeah he does??? lol Sorry I dont have any on my site and never have but I can get one if you need. I dont buy new ones as there really is no reason to as get good used ones from one of my parts suppliers. There are a lot of different internal wiring harnesses so be careful if you are looking at one on ebay.

Wow... I could've swore it was on there when I breezed through before. Maybe I was thinking of Intense's site... :th_scratchhead:
