Short Dogbone Oil Change

So I just changed my oil today and had put on the 1" shorter dogbones a week or so ago. Everything went fine and put in 5.5qts like normal and then when I poured the used oil in the jug it measured 3.5qts. Does rotating the engine forward that one inch make a whole 2 qts not drain out? So now do you guys think I have 7.5qts in there? Ugh

They only suggest you run 4.5 quarts, but I ran 5 quart jugs.

Did you even check the oil level before you drained it??

You could just quick unbolt the dog bones and check the level if you really think it's messing with something. And besides shorter dog bones are just a dumb and un-needed mod/change, if you are lowered the only correct way to re-correct the driveline angles is to use motor mount spacers.

Yeah this is a 2007 GT supercharged. Dang it I could have sworn it was 5.5qts. I might just have to redo it like you said by putting it back while draining it. So say it does have 7.5qts in it I'm guessing I shouldn't drive it much until I can get the right amount in it?

Regardless of your mounts , just pour the correct amount of bottles of oil. 4 and 1/2 bottles of oil or 5 full bottles if you use the longer oil filter.

Crazy guy, so do you think with the mounts and me putting in 5.5qts I'm only 1 qt over the standard capacity and I was just 2 qts low from when I got only 3.5qts out of it?

So you're saying your engine is pulled so far forward that it is no longer sitting level ?

How far forward do you have it that it would read off by a whole quart ? That's nuts.
Why do you want your engine that way?

I might have been victim to a colorful wording on the description of the purpose of 1" shorter dogbones . It said less HP loss through the axle shafts if the motor was sitting forward that one inch (maybe thats right who knows). Only $25 I thought what the heck. And I just drove to get a movie and at a stoplight I gave it some gas, just normal driving not into boost at all, and I had KR of 12 degrees! Something is wrong for sure. Too much oil I'm guessing. Ive never had that much knock even doing WOT on a hot day. I'm gonna change it again tomorrow I guess.

Go check the level right now.......... If it's anything severely over the max mark, drain some out. You don't want to drive with that much oil in it.

I had shortened dog bones for a little while, didn't affect oil drainage during an oil change. It all still came out. Whoever said you gain power from dog bones isn't someone I'd listen too. Sounds like zzp, lol

Yeah gold it was zzp's website haha but they worded it as in not gaining HP but probably less parasitic loss or less drivetrain loss. Either way, that's interesting you didn't have any oil change issues. To be safe I'm just going to just drain the whole thing and start over tomorrow or the next day without the short bones. I will let you guys know how much oil comes out haha

Been running shorten dog bones for about 2 years after i lowered. No issues as far as oil goes. As far as zzp goes dont listen to them! lol There are wayy more knowledgeable people here!

Having too much oil will blow your engine up faster then no oil. DONT DRIVE DRAIN IT!!!

ZZP also says people don't need aftermarket transmission coolers because hot fluid doesn't hurt your trans. Also says don't do it because a few people make user errors on install...

As far as your oil change "issue" there is no way the shortened dogbones are going to keep much oil in your pan. If it keeps any it will be less than 1/2 a cup.

Drove around a bit today just to get the oil warmed up before I drained some and still had the weird KR at like 5-10% throttle. Got it back in my garage and took out about 2qts and its finally at the regular level now. Hopefully tomorrow everything will be back to normal
