• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

shifting problems??

everyone seems to like the transgo kit. they run around a 100 bucks, you can install it by dropping the pan, search for a how to, theres a few of them. its a easy install.

wait for a few others to reply, see if im on the right path here before you just run out and buy stuff.

It could just be the shift or pressure solenoid.

I'd change the fluid/filter and see if that clears it up.

It's worth a try. Fixed my shift issues. B-)

Could be a lot of things.

What's the mileage on it?
Honestly..how long has it been slipping?
You gonna let your dad do all the work, or get in there and help (you get points for doing a lot of the work, it's not tough)?

do not flush your tanny. you'll kill it asap.

if its slipping badly a fluid change wont typically help. if its real dark and burnt up, maybe you could get a way with dropping the pan change the filter, then add a quart of some lucas trans medic and 7 quarts of new fluid. and the shift kit. but once they start to slip they are on borrowed time.

the truth is, 99% of the time, changing the fluid wont fix a tranny problem, you just waste money.

Sorry, I didn't mean a complete flush. You're right.

But I wouldn't say refreshing transmission fluid is a waste of money...

Putting a tranny kit on a high mileage transmission, however, is just that: plus you're offering to kill your transmission. B-)

a pan drop and filter change is well worth doing, so is a shift kit, even in a older tranny, it keeps the shift from slipping during the shifts, makes them firmer and faster, saving you clutches.
