shift rpm's and stock ballancer?

zzp says "It is only safe to spin an L67/L32 to ~6300 rpm on a stock balancer. Going over that can cause bearing failure, flex plate failure and power loss due to harmonics" is that what people follow or it just a "sale's talk" for people to buy the balancer? my shift points are

am i ok or is my math way off? it runs great and has a great pull but i would like to pick the brains of the TUNEing Gods! thanks guys!:th_thumbsup-wink:
 


Put fuel cut offs above 7200.

Running lean is a sure fire way of blowing your motor up, running high RPMs MIGHT hurt your trans or bearings.
 
the fact of the matter is that there are simply not any cams out there made that make power past like 6500. given that youre on a stock cam, theres no reason to go past around 5800 rpm.

what cam are you running and why do you want to spin the motor up so high? i agree that it will fall back into the powerband which is what you want, but the problem with revving so high is oiling related, not balancer related.
 
oops sorry for not mentioning... i have a xp cam with 130# springs and double chain..for valve train... stock head stage 2 intercooler 3.2 and 42.5 injectors fwi sd headders.
 
Out of nowhere the pushrods like to go around 6200-6500, stronger rods and a bigger balancer will make it safer to rev in that range but even with an XP cam you're still not peaking powerwise there.

6200 shifts should be more than enough.

I'd keep them at 6000 though. Namely because I DD my car.
 
ok ill drop it down.. now am i correct that it will shift on what ever comes first ie... rpm peramaters are met then it shifts or the speed is met befor the rpm and it will shif... or do both have to have been met? i have been WAY confuesed and been trying to figure out what needes to be changed i just bumped up the rpm and found the percentage and multiplied the same percentage to the mph settings that was already there...
 


both vehicle speed and engine speed for shift points should match. Some cars shift by one some by the other so its best to make sure they match.
 
thanks for the input guys! 6200 for performance shift and "stock performance" for normal. oh!!! one last question at what point do people start adding a shift kit for increased transmission pressures to keep the transmission from slipping too much? i had a post up awhile back with my build parts asking what people thought and i had one guy mention for me to look into a shift kit but no one backed him on it so i didn't think it was needed... the firmer shifts would be a good feel but if it would cause more wear than the power i am putting thew it then i don't see the need.. well that is a hypocritical statement with the engine mods but hope you understand where i am coming from..
 
yeah i already did the filter/fluid change like 6,000 miles ago... :-s and did a full synthetic dexron VI expensive **** i tell you what!! damn didnt want to make that mess all over again :-(

Firmer shifts causes less wear. The firmer shifts allows the transmission to slip less during shifts, the slippage is what causes things to wear out.
 
My cam peaks power around 6500-6600 or so.

ZZP used stock rods when reving to high 6000s (maybe even into the 7000s) on their twin turbo drag car before they went to their built block and the single turbo. Apparently never had any major failures on a stock block... just head gaskets and other crap.

Never heard of stock pushrods giving out above certain RPMs either.
