Shift Lock Stuck Until Car Warms Up

I have a 2000 GTP. I have read the other post on this topic but it wasn't exactly the same problem.

My car won't shift from park until it warms up a little. In the mornings when it is cold it takes 1-2 min and when I start the car in the middle of the day, when it's hot, it takes 0-30 seconds. I am thinking that it can't be a broken wire in the harness because, if it was, it wouldn't shift at all. I can't think of what would cause it to begin working after the car warms up a little. Any thoughts?

most of the time its bad wires, so its worth it to look in the console.

make sure your brake lights work too. iirc i saw a post that the guy needed a brake switch to fix both issues.

Check ball in the trans lines?

When you say won't shift. Do you mean the shifter physically won't move or when you put it in year the transmission doesn't engage and allow you to move the car until it warms up?
