Shift kit, what else to go with it?

WarStryker13

I break things.
I'm planning on selling my 04 GP GT, but I'll be replacing alot on it before I let it go. The transmission most likely needs the input clutch shaft seal replaced, (no cold forward, hesitates at stop and after revving it BANGS into gear) but at $3500 for a local shop to do it, I won't drop that much money into a car that I won't keep.

I'm going to install a trans go shift kit, but since I'm already replacing the axles would it be too much extra effort to go ahead and pull the side cover off and do the 3-4 springs? Also can I get to the seal without dropping it? What else should I replace while its opened up?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

So you are planning on going through and doing the rebuild yourself or just a shift kit and hope the issue goes away?
if I was going to keep the car I would add the 2nd magnet and a drain plug in addition to the valve body modifications

but just to sell it , why not swap a cheap junkyard trans in?

Because up here, a JY trans goes for $900. Not so cheap. And if I can just do that one seal without dropping it, I'll go for it. If not, then I'll just do the shift kit and call it a day.

I'd bet the piston is toast as well

It's a big jump in difficulty going from axles to pulling the side cover.

You can drop the drivers side just enough to get that cover off, then you have access to pretty much everything. Again, not a simple task.

Agreed, not simple... But I do not want to hand off a car that won't be driveable in a few years. So if I do end up pulling the side cover, I should just go ahead and replace the seal and piston while its open?

IIRC, the Trans-Go kit has a "repair" seal for input piston. You won't know about the piston itself until you actually look at it.

Ok, so with the kit and possibly a new input piston I should be good if theoretically nothing else is wrong? Just trying to figure out if there's anything else I should order before digging in.

Both, probably. Lol now I just need to order all of it. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get here and I'll upload pics as I go along.
