Shift Kit vs Tune

Hey guys,

So my new ride (2004 Impala) is going to need a trans pan drop anyway, wondering if I should spend the money on a shift kit (Transgo) to install at the same time.

The consideration is, I already have tuning software to increase shift pressures etc..... so does installing a shift kit provide me with any benefit that I can't obtain through tuning anyway?

Yea, if installing a shift kit makes ure your tables are back to stock, then tweak a little on pressure if you desire. I drop my shift times though to get the most out of the shift kit.

you can get your shift times down to something like .125 with a tune and a shift kit, though I'm not to sure how good it is for the transmission. and when it shifts that fast you can feel it pretty good.

Ya my pcm still has the ZZP 1.0 pcm trans settings IIRC since Iceman tuned my car, and I've had both their pcm and shift kit for like 2 years. Shifts anywhere from .125 seconds to .250 seconds. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

agreed with everything above. Fast/hard shifts with tune and shift kit can be harder on stock parts... but if you are near stock (3.4 pulley ish level) and don't run slicks, it will be better for it because you won't burn through clutches on long shifts.
