Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

shaving the trunk lock

ok ok ok!!!!! I will now think about not molding it in.

I should put grommets in the bolt holes though rite?

Grommets in the bolt holes?

Here is what I did, others can do what they want. But this works for me, and many others.

Test fit the spoiler before paint, you may need to modify the trunk lid to make the new spoiler holes line up...but your really making new holes where the spoiler holes are on the new spoiler. (poor quality control) Anyway...

when everything is cool, and fits good. I use spacers under my spoilers to lift the spoiler up off the trunk lid about 1/8" or so, that way water and large items from trees, or bugs can be washed out from under it easy. Use what you want, many have even used the garden hose replacement o-rings you can get at any store that sells stuff like that. I the seal both sides of the spacer over the hold to the trunk lid, set down the trunk lid, and secure, and let dry in a safe place for 24 hours and not letting it get wet.

What to use to seal?

I use CLEAR silicone, that you can find in any plumbing section. "Plumbers goop" works pretty good too.

So the lock is gone... :)

I did decide not to mold it into the trunk wiht your advise there gr8....

THe trunk is coming along, and I am getting my bumpers soon so I can start on those.

bringing this one up from the dead, I know, but maybe someone here is from the midwest and would help me get my trunk lid shaved. I'd really like to find an SE lid and then do it because I also have a 40th spoiler to add.

Anyone in the area?

You guys that went to all the trouble to shave it look great but if you're lazy like me and just want to mute the appearance of the key hole a bit you can just spend about $10 for the caps for the trunk and driver door...

haha thanks for calling me lazy!!! I would just rather this option than the other one mainly cause of the what if.

I just ordered a set for the GP. :th_thumbsup-wink:

JK about the lazy part; overall I'm really not but personally just didn't want to devote the $$ and resources for the shaving procedure. As you saw when you ordered the caps they are kind of overpriced for being just two small plasticky things but they look good when on. If you're x-amount of feet away from the car you can hardly tell where the keyholes were.

Note: My apologies to TNTSS for semi-hijacking his original thread; it was unintentional. :o

Bump again...after moving, new job, etc...finally getting back around to this.

This is all I have for now.

I know some of you have done this, but I
want to see some pics, and see if there
was any complications. My neighbor is going to
do it for me since he is a custom body man.

He is also playing with the idea of shaving the
side mouldings in the middle of the doors, and shavin
the handles as well.
