Service Engine light flashes... engine shakes...hardly any power at all

Hey everyone, new here, lookin for some help for my 2000 grand prix gtp s.c. 3.8. I got about 130K on it and the service engine light has been on for quite a while now. Anyhow the other day my engine just started shaking like crazy and the service engine light started flashing, my car has absolutly no power(can barely make it up hills), smells like its running rich. I checked all the plugs and changed the wires then ran the codes on it. I was getting a MAF sensor when i did....could this be whats causing the loss of power and ridiculous shaking? I'm picking up a new one tomm but just looking for any and all help that might be out there.

thanx in advance

Flashing engine light means its a potentially damaging code. I'd get it into a shop to get checked out before driving again. Could be anything from a severally clogged cat to a bad cylinder.

Guessing an injector. I think in the manual it will say if the SES light flashes x number of times in a row it is a certain thing.

ended up figuring it out.....still pullin a few codes but its runnin a wholeee lot better....i pulled the front 3 plugs out and checked compression in each and wasnt getting any in cylinder 1. pulled the valve cover off and found out i had snapped a valve spring. called around to about 6 different places till i found one (for only like 6 bucks). pain pushin that spring down and gettin those clips back on but that solved just about everything. i still think i need a new MAF sensor but at least i can do work now hahaha..thanx to all for your help everyone :th_thumb-up:

Well you found the issue, but a Flashing CEL is Misfire issue. Surprised the Valve didnt drop and get boogered up

couldnt that broken spring have been the issue with the blinking CEL...btw its not blinkin anymore...need to pull codes again its still on...either needs reset or its my MAF sensor

Yes the dead cylinder was misfiring. Sorry to confuse you. But the dead cylinder missing caused the CEL to flash.
