so the service engine light came on today and i have no idea why, i took the mal pgm fuse out yesterday to program a remote and lost the 10 amp fuse and put a 15 amp in its place but i know that would have nothing to do with it lol im just really irritated now, making me want to sell the damn thing because of all the work ive had to do to it already, i guess this was more of a rant sorry haha

No one has any idea why. Go get it scanned and tell us the code. Maybe knowing what you drive might help too.

haha sorry but yeah had it scanned and they said didnt bring up a code and that i might have water in my gas tank -_-
I put some fuel stabilizer in as of now but im not sure where else to go at this point
its a 97 grand prix gt

well thats he told me, and the only code i saw on their was p0701 which he didnt really say anything about but i saw it

that code leads a trans code P0701 Transmission Control System Range/Performance OBDII Engine Light Trouble Code | Engine-Codes.com

Possible causes
- Open or short transmission control system circuit
- Poor transmission control system electrical connection
- Check powers and grounds to Transmission Control Module (TCM)

had a friend scan it its P0171 system lean so its not getting enough fuel it actually stalled out earlier so im wondering what the cause is

most of the time that code is a vac leak.

Causes A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry. There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor Possible cracked vacuum or PCV line/connection Faulty or stuck open PCV valve Failed or faulty oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) Sticking/plugged or failed fuel injector Low fuel pressure (possible plugged/dirty fuel filter!) Exhaust leak between engine and first oxygen sensor

Check all your vacuum lines and spray around with some carb cleaner if you don't see anything noticeable.

its not a hard one to fix. get some carb cleaner, let the engine idle, spray the cleaner at the vac lines ends and sensors, if the idle jumps up, you found the leak.

worst case, you need a new o2 sensor.

my friend cleared the code yesterday and it hasnt come back on yet but i went and got a new fuel filter and maf sensor cleaner anyway
