Series 3 supercharger pulley

I'm attempting to install a smaller pulley on my series 3 3800 2005 grand prix but it's giving me hell coming off. I was just wondering if anybody else had had issuses with that and had suggestions.
 


Do you have proper supporting mods to even drop a pulley?

And you need a special pulley puller to get it off anyway without destroying the snout and the bearings inside.
 
If not using the correct puller you can end up damaging things. Even with the correct puller, I have had one or two that broke the puller. Once in a while..they don't play nice. Please let us know what you have having trouble with.
 
Thanks for replying guys, sorry it took so long for me to get back... I didn't go that small on the pulley, it's a SLP press on style. I ended up takin the charger off and using a press it worked out pretty good actually. Currently all I'm running is a cold air intake, the smaller pulley now, and a cat back exhaust I've only had the car for a couple months so nothing to crazy yet
 


i would suggest putting headers on CAI and exhaust isnt enough to drop pulley size

if you dont end up investing in headers alteast buy a down pipe to get rid of that u-bend and a powerlog

It dont matter what size you drop to, you still don't have any idea what the pulley drop even does to the motor.

Adding more air into a motor that is nearly choking from its own exhaust from the factory is not a good idea.

Let me know when you chip a piston.
 
I did plan on eventually putting headers and I don't have a u bend my car is a 2005. My pulley isn't that much smaller then the stock one I was able to still use the stock belt. The car runs great no CEL, car is breathing much better now with cold air intake and cat back.

Its not breathing better.

It don't matter that you dont have a ubend, you still have the stupid restrictive exhaust manifolds.

The Gen V blower which you have is far far better than the 97-03 Gen 3 blower, it creates boost far better and is more efficent.

Your car can only handle so much boost before you pop a piston.

And you have no idea if its even running good, you arent scanning for knock retard.

You NEED headers tho. More air in has to = more air out or you start having problems. Also, how much smaller can really depend on how long your engine will last. In the grand scheme of things going from a stock 3.8" pulley to a 3.4" pulley isn't "that much smaller" but with your mods the knock it will create will cause the car to lean out the fuel trims, then by boosting it you are adding more air and it will chip a piston and if you don't catch it in time will destroy the piston and get who gets to buy a new motor at that point?

PLEASE listen and don't make a noob mistake. Most here know "I told you so" all too well.

For the record, you don't get a CEL until its too late. What you think is breathing better may be killing your car, let me hook you up to a oxygen machine, its pure oxygen so you breathe better right? There are reasons we recommend certain ways to mod and have what is called "supporting mods" without them, your just buying time.

You want to really test it, hook up to a scanner, do a couple pulls and log the Knock Retard *'s, (not IF) but WHEN it goes over 3* before peak RPMS you know you need to back off and put the stock pulley back on. Again, your CEL is not a "pre-warning", its a "Oh ****, something just broke" light.
 
Ok I see what you guys are saying it makes sense. So my next question is were would be a good place to get the parts to finish up my exhaust so it's done right?

You need headers, many brands to pick from, its just what you want to spend.

Then you'll likely want a tune and way to scan the car still.
 
A good example is the car I just picked up. The motor is jacked. It has stock manifolds and down pipe with a 3.5 pulley. I very much doubt they had scanned it after the pulley install because they probably would have removed it immediately due to detonation.

The headers between 97-03 SII GenIII M90s and your 04+ SII GenV M90 are identical. Doesn't matter which you go with, just on how much you spend and what kind of quality you get with them.
Speed Daddy is the most common from Ebay, anything else is double or more and only slightly better in quality.

Give ^^^ A good read over a couple times. It should help shed some light on what we talked about with supporting mods.
 
Take a ruler to the pulley, figure it out that way.


Just about everything you want to buy is going to say 97-03, because it came out before the 2004-2008 cars.

A 3800 is still a 3800, so headers that say its for 97-03 only still fit your 04+ car the same way.
