security preventing start?

my 98 regal is haviong start issues and its not the starter it will fire up 5 - 10 times in a row then will hav no crank when turn key if i leave key in run pos for 5 min it will fire right up any ideas how to fix o ps the black peice on ignition that reads the vat chip is broke off i leave key in ignition to keep it in place has 2 wires still attatched is ther a way to by pass this sec chip reader?

its not a "chip" its a resistor an electric current goes through it and if its not the right current out the other side the PCM tells the car not to start

it was GMs moronic attempt to stop someone from jamming a screw driver in your ignition and driving away

Car should crank with or without seeing the right resistance. I think you should consider soldering the right value resistor in lower down and disconnecting the vats from the ign switch since it appears to be broken. Then determine if your battery cables are loose/corroded etc. Something else appears to be happening.

ther is a chi in mine we havbe talked ab it before i got the right key i had issuses w ignition and lady giving me wrong key when purchased car dealership cut me a reg steel key witch turned the ignition but no crank when got key with chip in it it fired up but had the 5 to 10 time start then nothing probloms along withj lower intake leak
how do i tell what resistor to put in does it have to be soldered in or can i twist wires and tape it before just to check if car starts up every time

Touch each side of the metal in the plastic with one lead from an ohm meter. It'll give you a reading. That's the resistance.

ok thats easy enuff whaere do i put the resistor just it the wires that r hooked to the ignition peice that is broke sorry to sound so stupid jus dont wana put it in wrong and dont resistors have a one way circuit?

hold on so you got the right key so it starts and then cuts out. did you do a full security learn with the new chipped key so your pcm knows its the right key?

he has a plain blank key the dealer cut, he got the wrong key when he got the car, so the key that works is un chipped, that would let it run and then die.

he needs to know the ohm's of what the key should be. so he can get the right key, theres like 10 different key chip ohm's
