second clutch apply plate

Hey everyone,
I've got a bit of a conundrum here. I am replacing the clutch plates and according to the manual I should see a marking for down on the second clutch plate.

"Install the second clutch apply plate (716) into the second clutch housing (617) with the marking DN or DOWN toward the piston"

Trouble is I don't see any marking other than UP on the backing plate? My thought is maybe it is worn away so my question is how would I identify which side should be down without the marking?

It seems that it has a flat cut side which I assumed would be "down" and a rounded edge side which I figured would be a better face to match to the friction plate or "up" but I am having second thoughts....

any suggestions?

sorry that was confusing the way I said it.

The only plate that I found that had a marking on it regarding orientation was the backing plate which is the top plate #626 in the clutch pack and it said "UP".

The plate that I am actually trying to identify the orientation for is second clutch apply plate which sits just on top of the wave plate. Mine doesn't have any marking, however it has a rounded edge side and a flat cut side? it is #716 in the pic below.

I have a video at home that explains which way it goes. I think its sharp down. I think. I will gladly check the video when I get home for ya.

I would appreciate that. I installed it sharp side down so hopefully that is correct and I can move on...

I don't remember seeing that in the ATSG. The top plate for the ring, has an orientation though. If you have no markings and the plate looks the same both sides (look at the edges etc), I would install either way.

the two sides are different. One face is machined with a straight cut sharp edge and the other is a smooth rounded edge. I assumed that the sharp edge would be down and rounded would be up to mate with the friction plate but I have no idea if that is correct.

thanks for the help!
