Seat belt light staying on

This just started happening yesterday out of no where....

Start the car up the seat belt light on the dash comes on solid.. Buckle the driver seat, stays on, buckle the passenger seat still on, do the three on the rear seat still on...

It will stay solid then after a few minutes make the chime noise and start flashing... after a few more minutes it will just turn off... restart the car same thing again..

So first question is, I know the front two seats definitely have buckle sensor switches... do the rear seats have any?

What could be the problem? Is there a pressure sensor in the seats (i assume so?). Is there a quick way to test which seat is doing this?

Does having a scan tool help at all (I do have an ok one, not a shop full featured one)? I assume there is some ODB2 data saying which seat isn't buckled?

The rear seats do not have one. What triggers the light to come on is in the buckle itself. With the seat belt unhooked and you press the red button on the buckle, light will go off. You probably aren't making a connection in the buckle. Maybe get a new one? I don't know if the passenger seat has one. What year is your car?

2008, there are a bunch of wires under the passenger seat, and one of the sets of wires appears to go to the passenger buckle.

I thought these were pressure sensitive, how does it know when a passenger is in the seat and not buckled? I know as soon as you put like 60lbs in the passenger seat it turns the air bag light on for them, or is that only for air bags?

i doubt a home user code scanner will give you any information, as those codes would come from the bcm/body control module.

well pulled the two front buckle receiver wire harnesses off today (2 wire small black plug) the drivers side I checked continuity on unbuckled it was a closed circuit, buckled it was a closed circuit...

checked the continuity on the passenger side... unbuckled it was open circuit, buckled closed circuit...

so this seems to point that the drivers side is bad...

left the driver side disco'ed and started the car up and the light is gone... looks like I'll be replacing the driver side buckle..

anyone ever do this before? I assume undo the 4 seat bolts and rotate I the seat back and unbolt the buckle receiver?

seat has two bolts in the rear track, push the seat back, then lift the seat back up, once its lifted up you lift the front 1/2 straight up. then its free. make sure all wires are unplugged before lifting it out.

check the wire to the buckle for damage, make sure its plug is clean push it on /off a few times can clean the connection up and make it works again.

just incase anyone else goes to do this, make sure you have a Torx T-50 3/8" ratchet bit on hand... that's how it's bolted on
