is it worth it to run seafoam and a fuel injector through the engine every once in a while, for example during a tune up?
 




Seafoam goes in the fuel, it cleans the fuel injectors... dont know what you mean by gas cleaner after seafoam. It can also go into the oil but I would do that part sparingly as I would worry about it thinning the oil.. also oil gets dirty really quick with that stuff.

There's also a procedure running it through vacuum lines to clean out the top end of the car, search around on the forum/online, you'll find a lot of tutorials and info.

Lots of people see noticable improvements on a car that's due for maintainence.
 
Someday I'm going to do another test but right now I don't have any gummed up fuel system parts (carbs) to clean.

My story is I had a gummed up carb off my Dad's old motorcycle. Took the carb apart and it was real dirty.

I didn't have any "carb soak" solution in the gallons from the auto parts store. I only needed to soak the jets and bowl so I ponder a minute and think, hey, I have some
Carb/Fuel Injector cleaner in a bottle so I should be able to use that.

Man, I was careful. This stuff at 100% may eat the jets and bowls alive if it leave it too long.

A few minutes soaking and nothing.
About 5 minutes later, nothing.
Half hour, nothing.
Overnight, not much for results.

Went to auto parts store and bought the soak. I think I soaked for 30 minutes and the parts came out very clean.

Now, tell me how that carb/injector cleaner does anything when it is mixed with 10 - 20 gallons of gas. Some say pressure. I'm not sold. Show me, I want to see the results.
 
How about maybe lots and lots of heat?

Also I have seafoam in a spray can that I used to clean my tb off the car last week. It took the carbon off like it was regular dirt, and the only difference there was some pressure. I don't think seafoam is advertised as a soak, so that might be the key... That and heat

I also know that my oil at oil change time is clean til I add the seafoam and drive for 100 miles and then suddenly the oil is very dark on the stick instead of dark gold, that's every 3rd oil change or so.
 
I don't know, pressure, heat, I suppose they would cause more cleaning effect. The stuff I soaked parts in was not sea foam but rather STP or something. You're right, not meant to be used as a soak so maybe that is the difference.

On another note - does an engine have that much "blow-by" on the pistons that the oil would get dirty in 100 miles? Just thinking here.

I'd like to see some before/after pics of injectors (if you can even see what is being cleaned) to convince me more.
 


Most doesn't do dick all.
One site said stp complete cleaner worked, but that was before the downsize.

The main chemical is from chevro n iirc, similar to what the gm cleaner is/uses iirc.

Most injectors cant be disassembled.

Most say blowby isnt that much of a concern.

No, what I meant was that after about 10,000 miles (every third oil change), when I use seafoam in my oil just before the oil change.. I can tell it's cleaning something because the directions are to add the seafoam to the oil about 100 miles before you change your oil, and as it circulates through the oil it will clean the internals.

The 3,000 mile oil is usually dark gold, then I add seafoam, drive 100 miles with the seafoam in it, and the 3100-3200 mile oil is suddenly much darker in that 100-200 miles than the whole 3000 mile interval.
The seafoam removed atleast some of the built up crud and suspended it into the oil. I say some because.. have I ever taken anything apart and inspected conditions before and after seafoam to see if it cleans everything? Nope, but Im making an assumption based on the rapid color change in my oil that it's doing some level of good.
