Scan tools

Hey folks

I am looking to buy an inexpensive scan tool off of Ebay (or the like). It is a hell of a lot cheaper than spending $50 to have the mechanic do it.
Has anyone here had any experiences with these type of scan tools??
They are available on ebay from $30-$2000. I was kindo f leaning to the $50-70 range?
Any guidance??

cheers

Matt

PS...My engine light is on and the previous scan popped up a PO440 and 442 code (small evap leak on fuel system).

The scan tool that you get for that money is just the bare bones basic ODB II scan tool. It should be able to read the codes and show you perhaps what the O2 sensors are doing, but much past that its going to be pretty limited.

I believe the P0440 code can be caused by a faulty gas cap, but Im not sure about the P0442 code.
