Sarted, died, now not starting. lost?

ok so yesterday i was cleaning up the engine bay, nothing major....reran some of the vacuums and started the car. She started fine and then shut off after a minute or so. Now the beast will not start at all. Been racking my brain on the issue.

Now I have cleaned the MAF, replaced the coils and ICM, pulled cleaned and checked all the plugs and wires, have pressure at the rail but no gauge to check actual fuel pressure, have spark from what i can tell.

Going to be getting a fuel pressure tester and a compression tester tomorrow to see what everything is at there.

Now my question is would there be anything else that I should be looking into as well? i was thinking maybe the ecu since i was moving it around when i pulled the intake to clean the maf and throttle body but i have power everywhere. I want to say the fuel pump is good because the rail has a squirt when i prime the pump and i can hear it turn on and i have no change spraying starting fluid in the throttle body. cars on 91 and just did a half tank to get it back to the house from the previous owner. although i could be getting low pressure, hence the tester tomorrow...

any thoughts on what else to look into??

My first guess is to check what you did is correct. What vacuum lines did you touch and go from there. Can't tell you how many times I've missed a connector and ended up in the same place.

From there, I'd scan for codes, check fuel pressure key on engine off, check spark and go from there.

Unplug the maf.. try starting it with a little throttle. And make sure your ICM connector isn't loose. My thought is more likely the ICM Connector.

You didn't lose compression or fuel pressure with doing a little cleaning. When you started it.. something jostled and it stalled.

ok so i checked fuel pressure and at the rail, key on, it pegged at 32ish psi...now i checked my impala as well with an na 3800 and it hit 50...would that difference cause it to not start?

it could, they need 43 psi to run generally. spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the tb, see if it fires up and runs for a bit.

ok so im gonna grab a pump from the junkyard and see what it does...unplugged the maf and it still wouldnt start...but i have spark at each cylinder and compression was 145ish across the board...so im not worried about a bad motor, just something stupid that decided to fail on me...yay

on another note, difference in pumps from the na to the sc applications, i remember something a while back when i was gonna top swap my impala about the sc pump having a higher flow or difference in the sending unit setup...cant seem to find it anywhere now

Yes, fuel pumps are different. I think 97-98 gtp are venturi style, not sure about gt, 99-03 gtp are dual speed while gt is single. Gas tank material changed but I don't think the pump housings did so yeah, be careful.

FWIW, I would check the voltage to the pump and voltage drop to ground before replacing. It's unlikely, but no reason to replace the pump if that isn't the issue.

Dumb question, but did you check the fuses? IIRC fuse 21 runs the MAF and is labeled "Ignition". Worth a try.

ok so i dug in a bit and decided to pull the cps and ckps and icm harness out and check it more thoroughly...come to find that the ground to the block off the harness took very little effort to break the tab...im really hoping this is the problem...im waiting for my valve cover gasket set to get here so i can get the new ones in before i put the coil bracket back in and check everything out...decided what the hell and painted the valve covers while they are off just to give it a lil cleaner look...once i get it back together we shall see if this little wire was causing all my issues...

ok, so an update on the Daytona.... as of today since the issue started I have replaced with new and warranty replaced it over again plugs, wires, coils, ICM, CPS, CKPS, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, MAP, TPS, MAF, redid every gound on the car, checked and replaced every fuse and relay in the car, checked everything under the dash, and still will not crank over. I had spark, fuel, and air then lost spark again.

The only things I can think of at this point would be the ECU bricked and it's not signaling for spark, or the harness is screwed somewhere and needs to be replaced. Now before I swap ecus and replace the harness since I was going to replace the harness anyway if I swap my ECU to one from the junkyard, should the car run or will I need to do anything else when its swapped?

You may want to read the manual on how the car starts before you swap out the PCM. I don't have it in front of me, but I believe recalling that the first 10 seconds of run time don't involve any input from pcm.

Re: Sarted, died, now not starting. lost? ISSUE FIXED

ok so update....the issue is finally resolved with the no start....i pulled the wiring harness completely out and went through it line by line....nothing in the engine bay harness was damaged...then i pulled the dash wiring, and low and behold found a broken wire from the ignition to the ICM...So she is finally back and running...now just need to fix a few small items and shes good to go for a while while i build my other l67 for the twin charged whipple, 5 speed swap....its been a rough few months but glad shes up and running again...

thanks to all that helped out and were parts to getting her going

How does a wire under the dash get broken like that?

honestly not too sure...I'm guessing it was an alarm install botched previously then removed...but now all lines have been fixed, gauges are all good, with some of the newer upgrades i did need to retune because she is leaning out a bit
